The one about the kid was definitely weaker than the one with the teacher, but what really made me like the episode is the story, things changing and all. It kinda hit'd me since I was going through some chances around me at that time that I was watching it. On the other hand, I didn't paid much attention to the fight scene at all, Pegasus is awesome don't get wrong but the flying battles were never the ones that I liked best among all other types of fights Kuuga had gone through. So I was completely fine with the action getting deduced.
Speaking of little action, I remember there was an episode that focused entirely on Ichigou and there was no monster of the week at all. Gotta say I liked that episode.

I believe that was episode 43, the one with the human criminal. That was a great episode. They went all out cop show on that one.

I hope I'm not yet too late for this to post but I'm gonna post anyway, I've just finished Kuuga and it is really good. :thumbs: This is probably one of those series that I rewatched again. It had certain elements that made it more like a j-drama than the usual kr shows I've watched so far.
The show really put a lot of emotion in it, I did like the teacher arc I was actually touched with what Godai's teacher said about him when he was a little kid, he talked about the origin of this -> :thumbs: expresion, then on that time when he lost his father early on in life that Godai has been doing his best for his mother and his little sister since then, and on the very last part of the episode when he saw Godai again for the very first time since he was in school that really helped him get back his resolve to continue teaching since before that he was really on the verge of quitting. I could probably say more about the story and arcs, as far as the battle goes, yeah maybe they didn't have the best CGI back then but I think the Kuuga character was more on close combat hence his primary form(mighty), amazing mighty and ultimate form not having weapons unlike Dragon, Pegasus and Titan.
Being a fan of kr show OST's, I liked the Opening and Ending Song of the series. The opening song was more showa-like but much modern while the ending song was like doing a complete break from all the action and drama by using a light-hearted song. The insert song was also awesome, I think it was titled "senshi" and I heard a remixed version or should I say "climax version" of it in the recent Climax Heroes:OOO game. What I just didn't like was there were still a lot of music from that series that wasn't released, maybe it was just studio-produced or something.
If there would be a movie about it or something ala-V-cinema ep that would star the same characters..that would be awesome.
To add to that, I'm really digging the Grongi text, I wonder if there were translations for it. At first I thought it was gibberish but while listening to how the Grongi speak again made me realize it was kinda Japanese but a bit subtle.

On the dvd release of Kuuga, the Grongi was subbed, so on some episodes of Kuuga I've seen, the Grongi has been subbed, and it definitely added some personality to the Grongi. (This is probably best after you've seen the series once, considering how they hint at a lot of things in the beginning).
Kuuga reminds me of those movies that you have to watch multiple times to catch everything. I remember re-watching it and thinking "Wow! I don't remember so and so saying that!".
I was thinking about a lot of the discussion on the value of a character like Akiko, Natsumi, Hina and Hana. When I watched some episodes of Kuuga, mostly near the end, they had a lot of things with Nana. I find Nana a better comparison to the heroines of today than Sakurako or Ozawa was. There was this episode where she wanted to contemplated violence against another girl who beat her out in audition. This definitely reminded of some of the early Hina episodes and the episode Akiko fought the Sweets Dopant.
The thing is, cramming in development for a character like Nana/Hina would mean cutting away from the action of the show. Kuuga had a bunch of breaks during its fight to show Nana/Enokida/Jean etc doing work elsewhere. It actually worked kinda well, considering how it showed how both Godai and Nana were fighting their own battles. But now a days, taking time away from action to properly develop characters like Nana and give them their own things to deal with outside the main plot is more like a hindrance and impediment. Toei certainly has changed the way it deals with these kinda things.
So yeah, there is my theory on the value of a character like Hina.

I guess I've got to find that DVD release too, I heard that it had some small book/manual that came with it containing the translations too well correct me if I'm wrong on this one. I agree with you that it definitely added some personality to them, and if I may add they were pretty unique at that time having their own language that had to be decoded to be understood.

Well, I just watched my very first episode of Kuuga today, after downloading the entire series on grounds of what I read in this thread.

GAWD DAMNIT THAT WAS AWESOME.
Godai is the single most likeable protagonist (right off the bat without further information on his character and history) I've seen in Heisei Rider. The buildup and suspense was phenomenal. The Grongi are looking to be the most monstrous and scary kaijin I've seen so far. Godai's first henshin into Kuuga is one of the best initial henshins evar, so intense and powerful. And THAT FRICKING HELICOPTER FIGHT SCENE WAS SPECTACULAR. So well-shot, so well-coreographed, such a good background song. In the end, I was grinning like a retard and thumbs-upping the monitor.
Call me a Kuuga fan, because this was so good.

I want to re-watch Kuuga now that it's been given a proper sub job, but even with the horrible HK subs, Kuuga was freaking amazing.
I still haven't seen a final episode to any toku that I've enjoyed as much as Kuuga's.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it and I agree about the background music. Kuuga's got this kind of galloping metal sound that really gives it a distinct atmosphere.
