Kamen Rider Kabuto was a parody all along...

To be fair though, almost all Toku series tend to create a character who's the extreme point of whatever human characteristic you can think of, I guess it's the only way to make that character recognizable from the usually relatable protagonist. In Kabuto's case, even Kagami who we're supposed to relate to is an extreme point of being a bit of a clutz and trying too hard in life at the same time, which is why they created characters like Tendou (who ironically is the namesake of the show), Kageyama, Tsurugi, etc. So if we can't relate with Kagami, we can certainly find some of our major qualities present in the other characters.

I felt that the original idea was for Tendou to teach Kagami how to man up, while Kagami was going to teach Tendou how to become more relaxed.

The problem was that Tendou never learned ANYTHING.
During the second part of the show, the writers turned him into a God-like figure, which only made his ego even worse.

Having a flawed hero is okay. It worked well in Faiz, but that was because Takumi COULD actually show sympathy for others.
Tendou rarely did that, and by the end of the day you got the feeling that he didn't give a **** about anyone else than himself and his sister.

Dude, RE-LAX. There is no reason to be getting this worked up. Your main issue comes from you overanalyzing this story from the wrong angle. Kamen Rider Kabuto despite the title and Tendou getting the most airtime is NOT truly about Tendou. If anything its more about Kagami's "coming-of-age" as it were. In the first episode we see that he doesn't end up getting the Kabuto Zecter despite it him being the one intended for its use. So unlike Tendou, he actually has to earn his power and go through an arc, by the time Gattack shows up he has changed as a character, I mean yeah hes the same guy but he becomes more able and more willing to fight for what he thinks is right.

Sounds alot more like a main rider to me.

Also, theres no reason to get mad about Tendou. He's hilarious. And maybe you cant see that because you want to see the story in a serious light, even though there are a plethora of scenes that would argue against that. Tendou obviously wasn't intended to be a relatable type of character, hes meant to set an example for Kagami STRICTLY in terms of showing him how powerful he COULD become. Hes alot like Zero in the first Mega Man X game, i think if you try looking at it from that POV you'll be much happier.

I have heard that Tendou was meant to be a parody of Toshiki Inoue but then Inoue ended up writing episodes of the series.
