Kamen Rider Kabuto - Pre-Discussion

HA. Another Garren lover...^^

C'mon, he was the real star of Blade!

Itou's always given the "cool" guys and I think he's always just bland in-suit, he doesn't give them a character as Takaiwa would.

You really think Takaiwa's that much cooler than Itou? Maybe your standards are just way high for some reason... I certainly wouldn't call Itou bland unless it was a role like the Horse Orphenoch.

What is your favorite of Takaiwa's suited roles?

Agito and Faiz, mostly. I also enjoyed him as Go Red, despite there not being much memorable action in GoGoFive (hell, he even made Mega Blue a lot cooler than Shun could have ever hoped to be).

What's there to say about Itou? I can't recall particularly exciting action sequences with him and he doesn't bother creating a character (although you think the suit acting itself isn't important, I think it can often make or break a character -- case in point, Yasuhiko Imai's useless performance as Time Fire). I think there's something to be said in that what I consider his best performances are the two Riders most don't even consider Riders. There's no question that Oshikawa and Nagase are more talented, but why do they get the shaft?

I just think that characters like Knight, Kaixa and Chalice could have been so much cooler, classic characters even, if Itou had bothered to make a character. If Takaiwa can spin a lousy character like Takumi into something cool like Faiz, why couldn't Itou bother doing anything memorable with Ren (who practically was the star of the series)? It seems to me like just about anyone could be playing the characters he's played in-suit. Except maybe Yasuhiko Imai, who I think is the weakest of any of the suit actors working today...

Just 2 more days! The first Kabuto toys come out tomorrow, and the show starts the day after.

I want to find out if they'll let me have one of those big Kabuto cardboard cut-out standees they have in all the stores now.

Bolt, hell yeah he was...::loves Garren:: :buttrock:

Annnyways, I agree. I think I've seen up-to-date, not counting Kabuto, almost every role Takaiwa has played, (not counting his B-Fighter Stuff), I'm just talking Sentai and KR, and in every single one - not counting Ninja Red (we've already discussed this earlier), he's made and left a memorable impression on me. I admit, the reason I fell in love with Faiz ,(it was my first KR ever, hence it will prolly hold a place in my tokuheart for a long while to come), and why I stuck with KR Faiz and others, was because of Takaiwa's suit-acting. After watching Agito, I could see why Shougo was always praising it, and claiming it didn't hold a light to other shows.

In regards to Sentai, I think a slight tossup between Go Red and Magi Red are what I liked him best. They seem to fit his character, and despite the characters (although Matoi was cool), he seems to enjoy playing these and goes out of his way to make them somewhat memorable. Time Red had potential, but Tatsuya's character wasn't written as well as it could've IMO. Agito was a cool show overall, but Faiz lived and breathed because of what Takaiwa turned bland, angsty Takumi into - a cool, smooth, and 3D character as Faiz.

As for Itou, Kaixa really didn't have emotion, heck, his character Kusaka didn't, unless it was for Mari. But I think Kaixa was where I started seeing that Itou could improve and provide characterization to his roles. As Knight, I agree - he could've given a lot more, especially when Ren (the actor) did a pretty good job IMO. But Hibiki clinched it for me - I see his potential, and I hope what he started to do in Hibiki pushes over into Kabuto. One other thing, it also crossed my mind that perhaps Itou hasn't been noticed as much or given as much leeway because he's in Takaiwa's shadow sort to speak. Maybe that's why when he was Hibiki, he came through. Either way, to get back on topic ::peeks at DK:: I think Kabuto will be interesting - I'm looking forward to it.
