Kamen Rider Kabuto - Pre-Discussion

What's there to say about Itou? I can't recall particularly exciting action sequences with him and he doesn't bother creating a character (although you think the suit acting itself isn't important, I think it can often make or break a character -- case in point, Yasuhiko Imai's useless performance as Time Fire)

Of course I think the suit acting is important, I just think that if it's a case like Justiriser or Sazer X where the skill of the fight execution is present even if the professional movements and gestures is off, it's okay. One of my overall favorite examples of suit acting and fighting is Kamen Rider Kuuga. It's just really well done, all the way around.

Itou might not be the best at conveying emotion through 10 pounds of rubber and plastic but he can move and fight well and that's what I respect the most. One of my favorite fights involving Itou was between G3-X and the school-invading Unknown at the beginning of Project G4. I especially love the choreography of that particular scene, and I'd rather watch a rougher fight of that style than something like Takaiwa's swordplay display later on.

I dunno if you guys are helpless stunt-fighting geeks like me, but I just want to say that Takaiwa's kicks look really great from the Kabuto promos so far. I admit, I didn't care about the star, or the kaijin, or anything else, I just really liked that spinning roundhouse kick.

Kenji Tominaga was amazing as Kuuga, I really loved him. I wonder why he hasn't done another tokusatsu...there's times I wonder how he would have played Agito.

::laughs:: 10 pounds? Really? I would've thought Toho's SeiShin costumes are heavier to move in. Despite their bulkiness, they move well - very well, and very fast. Hmm, I've noticed something interesting about choreography preferences. Being a girl, I think my attention gets drawn to different aspects of choreography than just the "raw rougher fights." I think it also varies from show to show. For example, I liked Faiz's "street brawl-like" battles, whereas Blade had a almost "dance choreography" style. Still, I find the aspects of choreography - martial arts movements aside, that's a whole other area for me, are the sequences that combine these two. For example, one of my favorite scenes in Faiz was Ep 3, where he "discovers" his phone. That sequence execution was beautiful in that it combined not only character, but the sequences plain just made sense. It didn't have TOO much martial arts skill involved, but it made not only an impact storywise, but characterwise, as well.

And Bolt, Ditto. I don't think I even caught who the star is in that promo...::helpless:::anime:

It starts on 1/29 at 8:00 AM.

On the topic of the stunt people, does anyone know what Shimizu & Hashimoto (both Femme in the Ryuki movie) did after that? Was one of them Larc? I'd also like to add I really enjoy the stuff of Yabe Keizou (Raia & the Hibiki movie's Kabuki).

I think Shimizu was DekaYellow and Larc or something, but I'm probably extremely wrong.

That was actually one of the first things that caught my attention about Kuuga back in 2000.

Yeah, he seemed pretty cool. I think I read he also played Zanki. I haven't seen the Hibiki movie yet, but I'd like to for the reason that I always thought a jidaigeki Rider would rock (and while the Hibiki movie isn't quite what I pictured, it still seems neat). Plus I really liked the look of the Izubuchi villain designs.

Hashimoto was Deka Yellow, Larc was Yuuki Ono (who actually showed promise as Larc, getting a welcome change from her usually goofy characters like Hurricane Blue, Abare Yellow and Magi Pink). I don't know what happened to Shimizu, but Hashimoto also played the various Hime monsters in Hibiki.
