Kamen rider hibiki question

[HIDE]Like I said, if you really look at it, she only almost does it. She gets about 95% there (even beginning to take on what would have been her Oni form), but she's unable to complete the henshin and collapses. She was close, VEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERY close, but she didn't quite fully complete it. If she HAD fully completed it, she would have been able to maintain the Oni form and fight.

She was close, but no cigar.[/HIDE]
But she does transform.

I'm starting to feel like a broken record here. If you want to think that she does, despite the fact that I've actually described/explained the scene in question which pretty much shows that she (like I've said before), begins but doesn't quite complete the henshin, then you go ahead and believe that.

And it appears that you're just going to do nothing but continue to go "Yes she does" like a little kid instead of actually trying to give your argument more credibility by providing some actual context to try and back your post up (the way that I have done), then I may as well just lock up this thread as the original question has pretty much been answered.

[hide]It does appear that way, doesn't it?

And the original question was answered before you brought up your technicality. It's been a while since I've seen Hibiki, but from what I recall there wasn't really any evidence that she only began the henshin. I just remember seeing the feet of a transformed oni and a body that looked reminiscent of Ibuki. I know she collapsed, but then again the question wasn't asking if Akira was able to maintain a transformation in the show.

And my point was that someone asked whether Akira transformed. And correct me if I'm wrong, there was a definite shift from human form to oni form. Thus, since the question was answered and the member pointed in the right direction, I really didn't feel that technicality (if there really is one) needed to be brought up.[/hide]

Okay, NOW we're gettin' somewhere.

[hide]You said it yourself, the question was whether or not she transformed. Even though I'm an English teacher, I don't need to tell you that the -ed suffix at the end of "transformed" indicates an action that happened in the past tense. The fact that "transformed" was written in the past tense implies that the transformation was completed. Now, after going through my burned DVD collection, I found said episode and watched said scene, and like I've said before, she didn't quite complete it. She was on the verge of completing the henshin (as was indicated by her beginning to take on her Oni form), but she WAS still in the "henshin process" when she collapsed unconscious. It would be more grammatically correct to say that she was in the midst of transforming in this ep. She did not, regrettably (personally I really wanted to see her kick some major tail as an Oni) complete the henshin, which means that grammatically, saying she transformed is not quite correct.

Did she attempt the henshin? Yes.

Did she fully complete it? After re-watching the scene, I have to say no, she didn't.[/hide]

[hide]The tense of the action is irrelevant. Since you went back and rewatched it, okay. She didn't complete the henshin. That still has no weight on the point I was trying to prove.

I was saying that you bringing up that technicality is unnecessary. Why? Because of the original question.

It wasn't asking whether she completed a henshin. I did say it myself, that it was a question of whether or not she transformed. And since you're in English teacher, I guess there's no need to tell you again the meaning of the word "transform." Akira shifted from human to oni. That's a transformation. I don't care, and most likely the creator of the thread doesn't care, whether she completed a henshin or not.

At a point in time, she was human.

At a point in time AFTER that, she was blue, was surrounded by wind, whatever...oni. Perhaps not a complete oni as you keep saying, but different from a human nonetheless.

And I'm sure if you ask anyone, that's a transformation.

You interpreted the original question. Now you're calling others out based on your own interpretation. I don't know if the original poster meant "complete henshin" when he asked about a transformation, because Akira definitely transformed. But despite any way of interpreting it, what you said is unnecessary to the main idea. So really, before you called me out for being childish without knowing my true point, the thread could've been closed. It could've been closed before you even posted.

I'm not saying you said anything that was incorrect, because you didn't...based on your own interpretation of the original poster's question.[/hide]

Trying to turn my own statement around at me?

You make a good point though about how scenes are interpreted. It's obvious that given our respective backgrounds, we'll each see certain things as important/not important, and that it isn't necessarily going to match with what the other has labeled as such. We've obviously each looked at both the scene and the question and interpreted them in our own ways.

EDIT: Probably best to just leave things at that as it seems the two of us are the only ones continuing this thread. :P
