Kamen Rider Gaim - News/Rumors Thread 2: Suffering Incoming

Not exactly sure that's always true, as far as I know Kobayashi did most of OOO. But I do agree that the head writer doesn't always write all of the episodes, and that Urobuchi writing nearly every single episode is probably a first.

I haven't checked yet but if there are other series that are like what you say, then what's the point of being 'head writer'?

I think he may be thinking about the main director. The main director usually directs the first two-four episodes, two in the middle and the final two, along with the winter and summer films. Ryuta Tasaki, the main director of Gaim however, has only directed Episodes 1 and 2 and the Movie War so far. Most of the other episodes are directed by others for two episodes at a time or longer (I mean heck, Hidenori Ishida has probably directed the most episodes of Gaim so far with 8).

Main writer-wise, it's common for them to write most, if not all of the series. Inoue wrote all of Faiz himself, and aside from a couple of episodes in Kiva and Agito, he wrote all those himself too, Kobayashi is pretty good for this as well. Most other writers usually have a back-up writer (eg. Junko Komura for Wizard) and sometimes they get guests to write individual arcs though that is something more normal in a show like Sentai.

If Micchy's turning into Shin-Zangetsu, though, using Takatora's driver, that wouldn't be a problem. There's nothing to suggest that the Genesis Drivers are initialised to a single person.

As for Ryouma: While it's entirely possible he's going to vanish for a few episodes for a play, there is another option - if the episodes are written far enough in advance, they could just have filmed his scenes in them early, and have him only miss maybe one episode, or have a few short scenes spread out over several.

Yeah, but Baron Energy Arms has the same undersuit as Baron. If they did go with what you are saying, then it would be Ryugen Melon Energy Arms. So I dunno... Honestly, I don't like the idea of Ryugen changing suits completely, I liked how each Rider had an individual undersuit.

But maybe they do just mean Ryugen Melon Energy Arms. I mean, Ryugen is supposed to get a new form, right?

And yeah, I feel like they did film a lot of Ryoma's scenes earlier. It's an easy solution especially since Ryoma is separate from the action at most times, and all they would need is Yoko's actor and Sid's at times.

Maybe now that he is leaving, they will do what NeonZ said and we'll getting to see more and more of Duke. Which isn't bad, for sure.

Yes then my question can be changed to: If the 'main director' only directors a few episodes, how can he/she be a 'main director' then?

I guess it's because at the end of the day, they usually have done the most work. Those 6-8 episodes are usually the most episodes any one director on the show is head of. They set up the mood and overall visual aesthetic that the other directors have to stay true to.

Also, the 6-8 episodes are an estimate. Shojiro Nakazawa for Wizard directed 13 episodes and the feature film, which is a lot when you think about a 51 episode series.

Also having to direct feature films is a big job. That's probably what's paying them the most. Sometimes, the main director isn't responsible for the feature but they have been for the last couple of years, so I wouldn't be surprised if Tasaki is working on the Gaim film right now.

Also, on the subject of Tasaki - he's been the head director for several series in a row. From Kiva until OOO he was the main director and worked on around 8-10 episodes per series, minus the finales (except on OOO, when Sakamoto took over for Fourze) because he probably had to be working on the next season during that time period. He's definitely done a lot of work, which is why I am surprised his work in Gaim has been pretty limited so far.

Micchi being Zangetsu sounds like a little kid trying to convince everyone that he's a grown-up. But the truth is he's not. Where as Kouta has already has shown some maturity.

When the 'head writer' isn't writing the episodes I assume the person would still be there as a consultant/guide for the other writers. You know to keep consistency and make sure the others know what story they are building towards?

You're probably right about that, the main writer is still the one who makes all the main story decisions and drives and shapes the story and characters (unless there is a staff change *coughhibiki*).

Usually a guest writer shows up when the writer needs a break. Week after week of new scripts for a year's worth of episodes is no easy task. Which is probably why Kobayashi's shows are usually full of filler towards the middle.

Wait the Sengoku Drivers are all initialised by the first person wearing the driver so surely Micchi can't turn into Zangetsu?

If Ryoma at this point can whip out a spare Genesis Driver for Kaito and have it work in a way that it honestly shouldn't do, the guy can practically do anything with his own creations at this point. Just have a kind of "I've modified Takatora's toy. Thank me later" throwaway line that would work if they wish to have Micchy Zangetsu.

He's the science equivalent of "a wizard did it", after all.

The scene with Zangetsu and Oren is most likely a comedic one. I don't see Oren having a dramatic death in the arms of Takatora, as it would end up being funny instead of sad.

No. I see Oren fighting an Overlord or a strong Invess. He then gets hit and knocked out off his transformation, and Takatora comes to his aid.
Oren then have one of his "moments" before passing out.

I realized recently we know very little about the Genesis Driver. There's a lot that isn't said, and I had a theory about tying the belt to the first user.

Essentially, it makes sense to me that the Sengoku Driver has this restriction because they seem to be limiting how many test subjects they have (Only 6 Drivers were given to the public and Sid mentions "I only give these to select people.") - It just seems easier to keep tabs on one person per belt.

That said, the Genesis Driver really doesn't NEED that exclusivity because they can control who has them, since they're only given to those within the company. They're so strong that they don't have to worry about some upstart showing up to take their belts. Probably why the mass produced belts act that way as well.

That, and if someone were to, say, die, they don't have to destroy the belt. They just put it on someone else.

If Mitchy IS going to transform into Zangetsu, then I feel like the lack of clarification on how the Genesis Driver works is probably in their favor, they can make it happen. As Artisan said, a tech-wizard did it.

But maybe they do just mean Ryugen Melon Energy Arms. I mean, Ryugen is supposed to get a new form, right?

The Akki News post I linked specifically says stuff about Mitchy and Zangetsu, nothing about how Ryugen is getting Melon Energy Arms or anything.

And where did you read that Ryugen is getting a new form, new rumors? Or if this is based on Baron's upgrade, it was only applied to him because of viewer popularity, so I don't know if Ryugen is just going to naturally receive an upgrade too. I feel like Kiwi Arms IS the upgrade, as rarely used as it is.

Probably because the main director sets the tone of the series and how story effects can be implemented within the show. Of course not every director can leave a footprint like Sakamoto.
