Kamen Rider Gaim - Lock 06 "The Durian Rider Enters The Fray!"

I like how everyone is keen on predicting who dies first. The "Urobutcher will slaughter everybody" bandwagon is strong in this forum.

On another note. So Flamboyant characters are going to become a norm it seems. That bothers me. Now, before you scream "homophobe" or "bigot", them looking and acting so 'gay" isn't the problem. It's just that it seems to be the only side to be represented. We get diversity, but by reenforcing certain stereotypes. Yes, the whole France angle does give Bravo a pass for being this fruity, due to stereotypes, buuuut... once again reenforcing the stereotypes are we? But, baby steps I guess. Who know maybe one day we will get main rider that is otherwise your regular main rider but just into dudes, or (which, admittedly makes me a lot more excited) just a pair of girls that are "really close" ^^ Whoops, that's my perversion speaking there. Playing lesbians for fanservice wouldn't actually be exactly progressive at all...

I agree. I hope Bravo isn't just a character who exists to antagonize the hero's and then dies shortly after. It would be nice to have him be a well realized character who contributes to the plot and isn't just the butt of awful "Gay people are weird/evil" jokes.

Iiiii actually can't tell if I'm offended by Bravo or not.

He is very flamboyant, in a very stereotypical way, and Toei has done the 'evil flamboyant gay man' before and they have not done it very well. But judging by that scene in his room, he's also a - highly decorated Army veteran, and a lot of the shots of him and his scenes are written and filmed to highlight that he's tall, muscular, and quite intimidating in a very non-flirtatious and quite masculine way, which are ... not stereotypes of gay men? Japan may well have a long standing stereotype that gay men are muscular, highly decorated soldiers, I genuinely don't know, but it was a facet to his character I wasn't expecting.

I've only seen the raw so far (obviously), but I got the impression he wasn't flirting with Kouta at all, and that Kouta doesn't like him because he finds him overbearing. That may be the deciding factor on whether I think it's offensive or not: Since one of the most pernicious, horrible and startlingly common stereotypes of gay men is that they 'prey on the innocent and young', I think if he is flirting with Kouta that would swing it over to being offensive, for me.

I don't think he'll be around for very long. My suspicion is that he'll be Zangetsu's first victim. Then again, I didn't think Date or Hayami would be around for very long.

Tall and muscular is a stereotype for gay man in Japan.
