Kamen Rider Drive - News/Rumours Thread 1

Didn't the supposed Kiriko-Chase romance (or the possibility of it) come in later? That's what I meant by "cutting into the character". There's no reason for them to have a romance, even besides the fact that he's a robot. It should just be altruism and Kiriko returning the favor.

But it's only natural that Kiriko would fall for Shinnosuke because any close male/female friendship must turn into love and, of course, the hero deserves to be rewarded by "getting the girl"?

I agree there should have been no romantic element involving Chase unless they were going to do it properly and leave out Shinnosuke. As written, it was a complete waste of his screen time

Like how Shotaro married Akiko? or like how Eiji end up in a romantic relationship with Hina? or like what we saw in the future of Gentaro and Hina, where both are a couple? or how Koyomi ended up with Haruto? Well, in Gaim's case, I think is debatable to say that Mai was interested in Kouta, but he only saw her as a dear friend.

Anyways, dude, I don't know what is the problem with you, and why you insist so much with Shinnosuke and Kiriko getting together, as if it was something that bad, morally and/or ethically wrong. It's not something that happens every year, and almost every time I lurk the thread, you mention it...

If I was you, I'll be more concerned on how they killed every roidmude, being unable to show us how different people can live together, but no, they have to kill all roidmudes! Even after they show us that the roidmudes were technically victims too.

I hate Shinnosuke/Kiriko because it's heavy on the "woman as prize for the hero" ideal. (Rio Uchida herself admitted this in an interview. When asked who Kiriko would choose out of the two guys, she compared the situation to Dragonball Z, then said something like "the viewer is supposed to want to see Shinnosuke win her.")

I've said plenty about the Roidmudes. They were basically killed off for the sake of giving the heroes a "perfect" happy future where they wouldn't have to co-exist with something alien ... and so that the show wouldn't have to address the issue of what would really happen if humans had to share the planet with another life form. If Drive really wanted us to believe that the Roidmudes could co-exist with humans, then either Heart, Medic or Chase (or all three) should have survived

But she isn't Drive's writer. Oh well, I didn't know she said that, it changes a lot of things, except one... You can interpret it the way you want, and you can tell others about that interpretation. The show's writers don't have any control on how we interpret things. Sure, they can say that you're supposed to interpret it only one way, but you can disagree with that and you are free to keep the interpretation you like the most.

That being said, Personally, I think Shinnosuke and Kiriko being a couple is something tacked on the show, an afterthought. It came almost out of nowhere.

Yeah, I posted without reading the previous two pages where it was discussed that about the roidmudes.

This is an example where we have a different point of view in the topic. I don't see it as a happy ending, sure life goes on and they can live happy after that. If anything, I think Shinnosuke sort of failed as a rider. He was unable to protect the roidmudes and they went extinct because of that.

You know what was missing in the show? Chase's role. When he was first introduced, he was along the lines that he executed roidmudes to give them a second chance. That was completely dropped later in the show. We could have three riders: One that protected humans, one that destroys his enemies, and one who gives the enemies a second chance. That could give us very interesting situations in the show, and drive the show towards the roidmudes co-existing with humans. It could also make a way to Shinnosuke and Go really questioning themselves about what does it mean to be a rider, and to think if the destruction of the enemy is the only way to proceed.

In the end, the only thing that we can say is that Heart, Brain, Medic and Chase, all of them died being humans. Maybe there's hope for them to be revived and kept alive in the movie wars.

That seems very unlikely, considering how Chase's solo movie is going to take place during the tv series. If he were alive by the end, there'd be no need for that.

Seeing these arguments about Shinnosuke & Kiriko makes me wonder how Japanese fans feel about them end up together. I live in Vietnam and different from what I see on HJU, Vietnamese fans are fine and even happy that Shin and Kiriko are a couple. I wonder is it because of the difference in culture thatcause this?

I don't think it's anything to do with culture? A lot of English speaking fans like it. Most of the world believes that women exist to look pretty and have babies, and as such, love to see fictional relationships like this one

From what I see on Japanese sites, most people like it, although some would have preferred her with Chase and some think that Kiriko should have been allowed to continue to be active in the show instead of being turned into a damsel in distress ...

Not necessarily - Takatora Kureshima was still alive at the end of Gaim, but his movie was set during the TV series. Chase's movie is an "origin story", which makes sense, as he has a whole history as Proto-Drive and Mashin Chaser that the show didn't have time to explore

Toei's site notes that some of the destroyed Roidmudes would be revealed there. So, it'll likely take place towards the ending of the tv show, since that was the point where a bunch of Roidmudes were suddenly listed as being destroyed. Takatora was alive but he only has a belt post-series due to the events of Movie Wars Full Throttle, and so far they seem to want to avoid referencing crossover stuff in Gaim's standalone features. Takatora apparently won't even be in Knuckle Gaiden, even though Micchy will be there and Takatora will be in Duke Gaiden.

Yeah that's not an arrogant, self-righteous dismissal at all. :rolleyes2:

Media all over the world gives us storylines like this one. The "damsel in distress" is universal because it reflects an omnipresent ideal of what women are and should be. To say that "Japanese culture" is the main reason for the writing of Kiriko is probably not accurate. There are plenty of Japanese shows, even some aimed at young boys, that do better.

The Chase movie does explore his origins - there is a post on Tokusatsunetwork about this, which I can't link on mobile. The cover having a larger picture of Mashin Chaser than Kamen Rider Chaser also suggests a backstory. Some of the movie will probably be set later in the series just for the sake of having Chase's Rider form in it
