Anyway, as for copying Gaim's formula... WHAT formula? Seriously, I don't see it other than super powered individuals come into conflict with monsters and each other, which is pretty much every superhero ever.

I'll be generous and say two good years. OOO is certainly better than Decade (though that doesn't say much) but still had the "copy Den-O syndrome" horribly mashed in.

I meant in terms of commercial performance and reception in Japan

How did Wizard do anything to change up the W (really the Den-O) formula? Other than having much less plot and much more "LAUGH AT US WE'RE SO FUNNY!" junk?

It was slightly different in that there were multiple Riders towards the end of the show while the others (and Den-O) only ever had two

I meant basically "trying to repeat whatever audiences liked best about Gaim".

Gaim's ''formula'': A story that begins with a casual and childish use of supernatural powers and slightly friendly rivals. Life is fine.
Then it turns out that what they were doing doomed many of them and was part of an even bigger doom.
All of them change, whether they grow up to become stronger individuals or get more evil and twisted as time passes.
Multiple Riders. Multiple users of similar belts.

Other than the multi-Rider part, this is not really a formula because it hasn't been repeated yet. There's probably even more I'm missing.

Having more than 5 Riders in that show fighting each other it's something that has happened before, and the episodes in which they were introduced might seem like a formula.
Imagine the next series does this: 7 Riders are introduced in the first 10 episodes, a few of them have multiple forms. Beginning around episode 12 new Riders are introduced, with upgraded systems and weapons. From there, only new forms are introduced, mostly for the main Rider.

Gaim did not break the formula of the ultimate form, by which I mean the time it takes for it to appear... or there being an ultimate form in the first place.

The point is, there ARE things that could be repeated. But they shouldn't be called a formula.

If you mean having 2 new Riders only, I'd say that should be attributed to Den-O more than W.

All right, let's amend my earlier remarks to "emulate whatever characteristics of Gaim audiences liked best" and "the formula established by Den-O but which was repeated four years in a row from W through Wizard"

If you look at OOO-Wizard, they copied even specific plot elements from W, like the non-human partner that dies near the ending of the show, focus on a specific "monster" and "victim" in two part episodes in almost every single one of them (basically every time for Wizard), in addition to the toy related ones, like secondary Rider debuting around the same episode every time, helper robots and collectibles.

Anyway, I guess Gaim's "formula", if it's copied later, would be, so far:

-serial storytelling
-little focus on the monsters outside of the commander types.
-no focus on weekly guest characters.
-multiple Riders, slowly introduced from the first few episodes.
-Collectible gimmick that can be swapped between the Riders, fully functional for any of them.
-2nd batch of Riders with new Drivers around the same time the Genesis Riders debuted.

I can't really say anything about character arcs without seeing the end of the show, but I guess Kaito could end up having characters in similar roles due to his popularity.

If you mean having 2 new Riders only, I'd say that should be attributed to Den-O more than W.

Kiva still had four Riders though, with the second Rider being introduced much earlier than in Den-O or W.

I think what Gaim's "formula" is referring to is the intentional break from the one established from Den-O and used up to Wizard. Favoring more of a focus on a central plot rather than "monsters of the fortnight".

That said, it'd be good for Kamen Rider episodes to not be two-part Sentai plots again (not that I hate everything about the previous neo-Heisei shows, it's just time for a new direction).

The should have the band Back-On perform Kamen Rider Drive's theme song since they're signed Avex.

It could be a possible cyberspace/VR theme as well similar to Gridman. Maybe Toei wants to cash in on the popularity of Sword Art Online.
