Um, just to let ya know, Nakashima Kazuki isn't joined with Drive. Hasegawa Keiichi is the other writer.

Well it's not really arbitrary. If the tyre was vertical then the suit actor wouldn't be able to bend at the waist, and if it was horizontal it would get in the way of their arms. As it is, the tyre looks like a sash and it means that they just have to change the chestplate of the suit to show the different ones.

IMO it works better than Fourze's modules did.

Perhaps Toei could take a note out of, you know a former toku series that has a tyre draped on their wrists and legs and uses car as a theme which when adapted by Koichi Sakamoto will enable them to spin the tyre when they are in kicking and punching area (go-on)? Having a tyre draped on his body will undoubtedly makes Drive needs to get his body within the distance of the monster's body which is pretty close.....so illogical

It should kinda work since police fighting styles are mostly grappling ones, so it's normal for the body to be so close. It's just that Takaiwa hasn't seemed to adapt it pretty well on screen (though in fairness, there were a couple more takedowns than usual) and that the level-pulling gets in the way of a smooth fight.

Anyway, the first episode of Drive felt off to me. It wasn't bad, but it felt rushed. Then again, the second episode is gonna link straight off this one. So hopefully, Drive can pick up for me.

Sidenote: That was an AMAZING rider kick, but like Fourze's Rider Rocket Drill Space Kick, Wizard's rider kick in the underworld w/ dragon, and OOO's Gatakiriba combo, we won't be seeing it much after the first few episodes.

Er... No? It's a forum thing. You change a quote and say you "fixed" it to represent your own opinion. A joke-slash-stating your own opinion, that's all.

I don't have an opinion of Akiko, but it was a disservice to both Gaim and OOO that Hina and Mai were not involved in the action scenes (which ultimately in toku scenes are what decides the plot). Removing the female characters from being involved imo essentially lessens their role. Not a major problem with OOO, but it's more glaring in Gaim since the entire final arc was about Mai and the three mains fighting over her. Mai was essentially relegated to a plot device and object for the male characters to fight over and ultimately she had no agency of her own. Its more galling since they were handing out Drivers like candy in Gaim that even Peko got one in the canonical movie.

I'm afraid I just don't really agree with this one. I mean, especially for a show that was stated to be trying to go back to early Heisei ideas, there is much more to the show than its action scenes, especially when it comes to plot. OOO was largely a character driven show, for example, and look at Kuuga - so much didn't happen in action scenes, and it only had one Rider to boot. I wouldn't say any member of Kuuga's cast wasn't important, though, and I'd argue even the ones who never saw outside their offices were far more important than some of the Rider Club members were, even the ones who occasionally got to take part in the action scene. Returning to Mai, she was a character throughout the entire show, and a primary one at that, and her not having fight scenes doesn't change how relevant she was to the story all throughout.

In the last arc, she did certainly get relegated to a more passive role, but she still had a fairly active one in the show beforehand, and the reason she even got that role in the first place was because she was being active with Roshuo. ... Which sounds terrible out of context, but you know what I mean.

I'd be okay with that, except it still would leave all the "where did everything come from!?" questions unanswered. :laugh: I really just hope she gets more depth than being deadpan and explaining our hero's character traits through pictures. The traits might be fun to observe ourselves, but imagine if Go-Busters had kept the sunglasses tossing from the early episodes and they had made note of it every single time. I can only see that being annoying.

But yeah, agreed on the rushed part of it, though hopefully that next episode will really help it.

Drive 1:

- Two minutes into the episodes and the mood is already ruined by tiny toy cars rolling around like they're Zecters or something.

- The theme song isn't bad. But it sounds more like a Sentai song than a Rider one.

- Wow. First the prologue, now another female character with a shoe gag. Could Sanjo make it any more obvious he's just rehashing W tropes?
*Plinkett voice* Come up with something new!

- For a Special Crimes Unit, you don't exactly seem to take yourselves that seriously. It's more like a cop version of Ryuki's ORE Journal.

Unless the idea is that the government didn't take the Global Freeze that seriously and the SCU knows it, hence their slacking nature.

- Shin's been talking to Mr. Belt all this time but only now figures out where his voice is coming from??

- It's like the police purposely made the SCU look ridiculous.

- Slow Down feels like Clock Up in reverse.

- The Shift Cars are officially lame. If they didn't act like Disc Animals or the other tiny robots of past shows, that would have been enough to save them.

- The suit looks better without the tire.

-I said the theme song was ok, but it's a really poor fight song. Like most Rider OPs really.

- Why is there a teddy bear in the police HQ hallway?

Not a bad episode. But I really wish we could return to the Kuuga-Agito style of regular police presence instead of comedians in uniform. In other words, Agito with G3 as the main character. I also wish this show wasn't so blatantly repeating the W and Fourze plot formats.

She does kinda remind me of Kengo Hopefully her role is bigger like Philip/Ankh rather than Koyomi..

Given her personality right now, even if it would be poor writing, I don't think I'd mind at all if she wound up like Koyomi. :redface2:

I think Belt is meant to be the partner character, if you're looking for the closest match to Philip. But she does get pushed more prominantly in the opening credits than most female leads would, so hopefully she'll be significant.

At the moment I'm just loving that they've allowed actresses who aren't still in their teens to have regular roles this year.
