triple post.
stop it, your hurting my eyes.
And no, DK really wasn't for preteens.
I mean, look at it.
It would have had a much faster pace for a younger audience.
I honestly think they tried to make a good adaptation, but America just isn't ready for it.
In lieu of America finally having the balls to let the material stand on it's own, it was a better effort than what we have seen previously. If we just had to do the goddamn adaptation dance again I for the most part could have lived with this even though they could have done better.
Kamen Rider is aimed at kids in Japan but the earlier Heisei shows and to some extent even the ones now actually have a little more in common with what would be a primetime or syndicated show over here.
So on this side of the ocean doing Kamen Rider as part of a kids block is kinda/sorta like trying to run Smallville or one of the Star Trek shows on Saturday mornings so it makes me wonder if that's the problem they ran into.
As far as pacing goes, well a little less time with the lameass bookstore characters like Lacey or even Mia's sleazy boss would have helped that a lot.
The show was also hurt by little things like the sound effects being turned down. The action scenes lose so much of their impact that way and when you watch the version of DK they run in Japan the sound effects have proper volume. It seems like a minor thing but it makes a lot of difference.
