Phillip's memories seem to be drawn from the four classical elements, which was itself an ancient theory about how the world worked. Cyclone == air, Luna == water, Heat == fire.

If the Fang Memory is in fact Phillip's fourth, then it seems likely that Fang is meant to represent "earth" and that's why it's tied to a dinosaur Memory Gadget. We know dinosaurs mainly through fossils, right? Which are bones that slowly reverted into minerals over time.

Shotaro's memories each clearly reference a fighting style-- Joker is open-hand martial arts where the body is a weapon, Metal uses the most basic form of weapon in the staff, and then Trigger uses the defining modern weapon in the gun.

We know that Trigger is regarded as the most potent of these Memories, and certainly guns are the most sophisticated of the general types of weapons available to humans. That to me suggests that, perhaps, W surpasses other Dopants by being a fusion of the new and old.

Shotaro's "special" Gaia Memories represent the growth of human wisdom and technology while Phillip's represent the most fundamental of ancient powers, the four elements. While other Dopants have only one ancient power at their disposal, W can combine old and new to adapt to any situation.

... now, watch Shotaro get a Gaia Memory around episode 20 that completely ruins this theory! :)

LOL!! yeah like the ferbus memory

its already been confirmed..

@ lynxara = good theory.. that definitely makes sense.. now what about double's memories? theories are they are sonozaki manufactured too

little hard to tell that when no one has said anything about it, now is it?

Another thing they may be going for is a twist on yinyang. The fact that Philip becomes submissive during the transformation fits into the concept of yin as does his over all personality. Plus when we look at the dynamic of the partnership Shotaro is out in public and the general face of the pair which goes with yang while Philip stays behind and does the research again a connection to yin. The one issue is the elements since both metal and fire are associated with yang and the dark color of Joker fits better with yin. I figure if the yinyang is what they are going with it is a twist on the concept and would explain why LunaTrigger is the most powerful, it is the form that has balance between the two. Then again they could be showing that both Shotaro and Philip have aspects of each. Plus it would explain why Philip is getting the Fang Memory, since the tiger is symbol for yin.

As for the weapons it could be seen as a subtle to Chinese military history. Joker for the martial arts, Metal for pole-arms, and Trigger for gunpowder.

An intentional yin-yang dynamic is definitely going on in W, but you usually see that in any show using a two-protagonist formula. W's use of it is less pronounced than, say, Pretty Cure's. W seems to use it mostly in expressing the characterizations and relationship dynamic (as you note) moreso than in expressing the specifics of the powers, at least to me.

Phillip possibly killed?

Here is the newest bunch of W rumors. This comes from a poster on 2ch who has been spot on with everything he's posted lately.

-W's Second Rider will utitlize the "Accel Memory"

-The Second Rider may appear briefly, at the end of the Double Movie

-The Second Rider's identity seems to be that of a Genius Physicist who cooperates with the police named Ukyou Suji. Ukyou has the character for "Right" in his name. There's a big chance he's related to Philip.

-In episode 25 (or there about), Philip will be killed. The Fang Memory is a device that will allow Shotaro to become Double without Philip.

-Kirihiko (Nazca) will betray the Sonozaki family, possibly killing Sonozaki himself. He will form a new empire under his name.

-Also as of 25, a character named Mira will appear. She seems to be the second rider's partner, and has a similar past to Philip. Her existence will be made clear in a memory of the "Begins Night."

Somehow I see Phillip being killed when he falls off the catwalk of the base when Double is needed.

Noooooo :bawling: I love Philip! Although if Kirihiko overthrows the Sonozakis, I could easily imagine Philip being killed by Nazca or a Dopant sent by Kirihiko ...

Somehow I highly doubt they will kill him off, the entire theme of the show is based on the partnership between the two if that happened they'd have to change the theme song as well hah.

You have to say that! Your username is Phillip!

I doubt they'd leave Shotaro unable to ever use the Cyclone, Luna or Heat memories again. I suppose it's possible that someone else could form the other half of Double - perhaps this "Mira" (if she can leave her body like Phillip can) or rider #2 or even Akiko?

EDIT: Aha! When Double fought Nazca, Nazca said that he wanted to "break Double in two" or something like that. Could it be foreshadowing to him killing Phillip?
