Ah, that wasn't a bad one either. I do like the Two Chalaces arc better, though. Both distinctly feel unlike the rest of the series, but I like the Two Chalices arc since it's pretty funny (and, as before...
two hot ladies!).
Well... I just finished the series last night. I was hooked during the last arc, though I'll admit slightly underwhelmed at the last episode. I saw the ending coming, though there were some details I didn't know. Overall, it was a satisfying cap on the series, though I was expecting more of a bang, since everybody praises Blade's ending.
Spoilers!
[HIDE]I was waiting for the Chief to come back, and satisfied that he did... except that he returned to do nothing. He saved Kenzaki and offered some exposition, and that's it.
I think it was also a sell-out to have Tachibana come back alive. Don't get me wrong, he's my absolute favorite character from the show. And he went out like a total badass. Then, it's like, "oh, the Chief found me and saved me." :/ But I should've figured. This always happens in genre stories. Someone dies only to be brought back moments later. I shoulda seen it coming, too, when there are two episodes in the last arc that end with Mutsuki apparently dying, only to be taken to the hospital in the beginning of the next episode. When Tachibana went over that cliff, though, and Hajime announced his death, I believed it. And felt it. That was powerful. I wish they woulda had the balls to keep him dead.
But I digress. Like I said, I pretty much projected the ending, but I had no idea Kenzaki would turn into an Undead. That was cool. And all the complaints about the story seeming too focused on Chalice don’t really hold water. It’s pretty obvious: the story is about Kenzaki and his heroism, and his ultimate sacrifice.
I definitely liked the first half of the series over the second, and I will definitely watch those again soon. Overall, though, I’d say Blade is a very good series (not better than W, in my opinion, which is the only other full Rider series I’ve seen so far).
