Kamen Rider Blade - Please share your thoughts!

After watching the first few episodes of Blade (when TV-Nihon first started subbing them) I just couldn't stand the show. This was my opinion after Faiz... which to me is still one of the better KR shows. Regardless, I got so bored with it after a few episodes that I stopped watching it... for years. About 6 years in fact, since I just decided to have a Blade marathon this past week. How does my opinion differ since then? It doesn't really. BTW I'm totally not trying to be a total hater here.

I kinda feel like the type of person that would like Faiz...isn't necessarily the type that would like Blade. 'Cause this is what happened to me, in reverse. In fact, I STILL haven't finished Faiz. (I watched...11 episodes?) Only I don't think I care to try and finish it, because it doesn't seem like it would improve.

Haha,i am the total opposite of both of you,i am a Ryuki fan and thought the rider wars was very refreshing, though, not really well planned, it could have soo much more potential.

As for blade, the first few episode ( the first 30 or so~) was as bad as it gets but after that the story and acting improves dramatically and its actually watchable. I gave it up after the first 3 eps. It was that bad.

As for faiz, the story is too confusing and too boring. I would put it below blade but i have to admit, its first few episodes are very nice, but it gets sour and bland from the middle.

Faiz, too much melodrama and idiots with anger management problems. Bleeh. I don't like Faiz, but I sure love Blade. But I really don't see how the story of Faiz is that confusing. I mean, it's just about a war between evolved humans and normal humans. Potential there, but it all goes downhill with it's Deus Ex Machina and the ending. Paradise Lost didn't satisfy me at all, Kiba felt like Inoune didn't knew what the hell to do with him with the constant side switching. =/ Faiz had it's potentials being a mecha themed show.

The story on Faiz, I admit, isn't the strongest story in the world. I just really liked the character designs. The riders, the orphenochs, and the bikes were all pretty bad ass. I haven't seen the show since it was first subbed, so I can't say if I'd still have the same opinion on the show.

Exactly my sentiments. The fact that it took me 6 years to get the patience to just finish the series says a lot. The first 30ish episodes were definitely subpar.

Blade is my 4th favorite Kamen Rider series. Why? It had a good story with a great ending that's why. It may have started off slow but it only got better after it picked up. The characters are awesome, the rider designs are cool, the finishers kick ass, and the movie is one of the best in all of Kamen Rider.

Now that I've established how much I love Blade, I'll now proceed to make fun of it with this.

I agree with everything you said EXCEPT that bit about the movie. I thought the Blade movie was awful. It had none of the charm nor excitement that the tv series had. Having them spend that time just getting their cards back was stupid. Some of those undead they captured in a matter of seconds, took power ups and a long fights to capture in the series.

Really? I love the Blade movie. As I said before it's one of the best in my opinion. You thought it was awful? I didn't think that was possible. Awful Kamen Rider movies to me include Hibiki's movie (I liked the series but the movie sucked) and most of the Den-O movies.

And the only reason why they done that cause Toei wanted to be cute and utilize the "Advent Cards vs. Rouze Cards vs. Rider Cards" bit...and the key median in the middle was Abyss/Paradoxa:shakefist.

The part that really irked me with that was that Decade managed to destroy an Undead. Not seal it, destroy it. It literally blew up. I can't remember which one it was, but it bugged the crap outta me. Also that Chalice wasn't an Undead in Decade...

Blade is my favorite KR series. I loved everything about it. Kenzaki started off rather weak, and he really came into his own as a rider. For the people that bitch that this series is all about cards, try really watching it. I don't know if anyone has in this thread, I am just talking in general. When Blade got his King card, he did it with nothing but his own strength.

The ending to Blade was amazing. Kenzaki gave up everything for a single friend. That friend had a new family. A family that he had never had before. Kenzaki is a true hero. I know some of you hate the ending, but look at it again.

Agreed. Except for the really annoying girl in the episode, the ep where Kenzaki seals the King of Spades is among my favorites of the series. He beat one of the strongest Undead, by himself, with no powerups. Didn't even use Jack Form to have an advantage.

And the ending to Blade is the ending by which I judge all other Rider endings. It is by far my favorite, for all the reasons that people have previously stated about friendship and sacrifice and all that.

Getting back to Blade it occurs to me that Chalice is actually a reversal of the classical Rider Formula
I.e a Human transformed into an inhuman thing by malevolent forces who then uses that power against the forces that did it to him...all the while having to come to terms with what he has become.

Instead Chalice is already an inhuman monster who is transformed into a human and has to struggle to deal with his new found humanity...which makes his struggle to keep a hold of that humanity all the more powerful as it's something that he struggled to attain in the first place as opposed to being robbed of his inherent humanity ala Black/original Rider 1 etc.
At once the same but at the same time the opposite. This tickles me.

That might be one of the most insightful things I have ever heard about Chalice. I especially like it when Kenzaki gets King Form and he has to struggle to control his impules even more than he had before.

I always find it interesting that most people don't like both. Faiz is my second-favorite series after Blade. Though really, I just like the episodes in the middle where all the crap hits the fan. Once we get into the Orph. King stuff it's horrible. Blade, Faiz and Kiva definitely have my favorite isolated episodes of any Rider show.

The Blade movie always puts a bad taste in my mouth because it basically un-did what I think is the strongest thing in Blade. Though I suppose if a person hates the series ending liking the movie would make quite a bit of sense.
