No words for how much I liked this episode. No words. :anime:

I like how Kyosuke openly admits how he was Red Racer and he lost his powers in the Legend War and is now reduced to teaching kids traffic safety!!!

It was a nice change of pace to see Kyosuke openly admiring the Gokaigers and actually wanting them to use Carranger's powers. I'd kinda like to see more eps handled with this kind of attention to detail.

A lot of the guest star eps have been, "You're pirates?! That means you're not good enough for [insert team here]'s powers!!" Sometimes that really makes sense but it's a well Gokaiger goes to a lot.

Hey guess what, I think I heard the instrumental of the Carranger theme!!! I think I did!!!

Carranger got a kind of stupid amount of music love this episode. They played the OP theme, the instrumental of the OP, and one of Carranger's own battle BGMs from the show.

The joke is, of course, that both Turboranger and Carranger share a similar theme.

It goes a bit deeper than that. Turboranger and Carranger were made by mostly the same staffers, most notably the same head director. Early on, Carranger is explicitly a parody of Turboranger.

Like... watch the second episode of Turboranger and then the first episode of Carranger. It's the exact same plot, but Turboranger wants you to take it seriously while Carranger is trying to make it look as dumb as possible.

Anyway, this episode matches the Dekaranger episode, beating every other Gokaiger episode so far aside from the first one... Hm... I kind of wonder if cameos from older series will have a similar reception now. 6.3% is actually significantly higher than Carranger's own ratings average.

A few interesting things to note here:

- The Dekaranger and Carranger episodes are the only homage episodes where the script was written by original series staffers. The Carranger episode took it a step farther and used the original director, too. I wonder if the homages only really get fans excited when participation from the original creators is confirmed ahead of time?
- Carranger's higher-rated episodes tended to pull a little over a 6%, so this is within Carranger's ratings ballpark.
- OOO pulled its highest rating since March this week, a 7.3%, so it's possible that Gokaiger just enjoyed an OOO bump. The parallels to the Dekaranger episode make me wonder about that, though, and so does the narrow ratings gap (only 1 point).

Yeah, I didn't like how down on Carranger the episode was. I guess it was supposed to be funny, but...it wasn't. Quite honestly, as a massive Carranger fan, I was let down by the episode. It tried way too hard, which is something Carranger didn't do. I can't say I'm surprised though -- while Urasawa did a good job on Carranger, he wrote some really rotten episodes of Abaranger, so I knew there was a chance the episode would seem closer to those.

Oh, no I don't mean in the episode...I meant people talking. They said the idea was that the Carranger powers were useless. I thought the show did quite well with the tribute ( was hoping for White Racer or Signalman's family).

That right there already told me the episode would be fail to you. Same thing will go down for all Maskman, Flashman, and Changeman. Mark my words lol.

I haven't seen the ep yet but from what I've read it sounds pretty funny so I shall reserve judgement.

As for GokaiSilver, so wait... the actor who plays Silver ISN'T the cross dressing trumpet dude?. :sly:

Yeah, I didn't like how down on Carranger the episode was.

I didn't think the episode was especially down on Carranger. I think what the episode was trying to do was sum up, in about 20 minutes, what made Carranger special. That's the sense of humor, sure, but also Carranger's tendency to give its heroes and villains feet of clay. People in Carranger are not only flawed, but they're often unglamorous flaws.

Now, Sentai has plenty of flawed heroes and villains, but... for lack of a better term, those flaws are usually cool. That's just how superhero stories work. Character flaws tend to be glamorous. Part of Carranger's basic humor was a superhero team of blue collar mechanics operating out of a nondescript garage.

Gokaiger is a team that's obsessed with looking cool. It's in their catchphrase, even. I think making the Carranger episode about Gokaiger's difficulty with accepting a heroic power that would force them to look ridiculous was natural and actually kind of interesting in its own right. It's not really something that the show can explore with any other team.

It tried way too hard, which is something Carranger didn't do.

Eh, I think it's more that the episode was trying to get in everything funny it could do with the premise in one episode. Actual Carranger would do a lot of stuff similar to this, but would spread it out over more episodes 'cause they knew they had to fill up a year's worth of episodes.

It's sort of like how Kyosuke's personality is a bit exaggerated in Ohranger vs. Carranger, as opposed to how the series handled him. It's clearly to make sure that every possible comedic possibility of Carranger's style clashing with Ohranger's is explored before the movie is over.

Did some1 noticed the bounties placed in the journal in the next epi preview?

If I am not mistaken:
Marvelous - 5.000.000
Joe- 4.000.000
Luka - 1.500.000
Ahim - 2.000.000
Don - 5.000

Ahim topped Luka now... and Don... no gives a crap about him ^^ poor boy!
