Internet Censorship Bill passes

This thread isn't about politics. It is about people not understanding their government and functioning on limited information. If you are truly worried about this bill reach out to your representatives, in both the House and Senate.

Frankly I don't care about a lot that passes or not, in the grand scheme of things we are a moderate nation and most of our policies follow suit. Most of what gets through Congress aren't game changers. We have a rather stable system and despite the yelling we aren't moving that much in one direction or another. There are things to worry about this isn't even near the top. Plus in all honesty even if this bill does become law there is no doubt someone waiting to challenge it in court.

Back to topic. The real problem with this bill, if it ever goes through Congress and sign by the President/override by Congress is that by giving the government the power to shut down websites for "illegal" file sharing, they can abuse that power and shut down just about any website under that bill for their own agenda. I hope this bill does not pass and I hope that there are more reasonable solutions that can benefit the media companies and the consumers .

I know our community pretty much thrives on illegal downloads of shows, movies, and music, but the fact that people are freakin out about this kinda baffles me. In the off chance that this goes all the way, did you seriously not see this coming? I mean, I download **** all the time too. But, you cant blame hollywood or the government for cracking down on this. It sucks, yeh. But its their right to ask for people to buy their products or to watch their content legally. Its cuz we're soo spoiled and used to getting things fast and easy for no money like this that we lose sight of whats right and whats wrong. I dont care if the Republicans approve of it or the Democrats or Obama himself. In the end, there isnt anything we can say about it because ultimately we are in the wrong.

Besides, this is in the VERY off chance that this goes through. Like previously said, there is a lot more red tape it has to go through before its even considered. How about we just calm down about it for a minute.
The problem is not only that, but most countries outside the US would be completely fucked. Ever seen something like ''[] is not available in your country''? That would happen with millions of websites.

But anyway, it really isn't as bad as a lot of people think, though I can get why they would panic about this, it's like being told your house is on fire, A LOT would be lost.
THAT'S ENOUGH!

I'm tired of being labeled as "Troll" out here. I just tell a story when I was a lot younger back. Yet, you guys think that I'm telling a lie. Good god, you guys needs to stop thinks that I'm a troll.

I'm just saying that I remembered the article and how do you expect me to go and find the link? I'm sure that the link is dead by now. All I ask..stop labeling me as a troll, for the love of god!

I'm getting tired of this. This is a last chance for you guys...
Want to make it stop? JUST STFU, STFU, shut up!
Stop adding more fuel to the fire everytime you post.
Just wanted to say it.

This entire thread is based on politics.
He meant that we should have no more politics threads, and I'm starting to agree with him, it always ends with extremely heated arguments.

ITs not so much the 'OMG THEY GONNA NUKE OUR SUBS!' thing that would worry, its more the precedent it would set when it comes to government control over the internet. Net neutrality is already flimsy as it is.

Word. Fansubs and other illegal downloads should be the least of anyone's worries when it comes to losing any type of internet freedom.

But eh.

Like all those big corporations who want to be able to take part of the bandwith away from little users and sell it to the highest bidder.
