INCEPTION - Discussion Thread(SPOILERS!!!)

This movie totally threw me off balance, but I fucking loved it. A friend of mine is going with the theory that the whole movie was a dream within Cobb's mind. I'm kind of skeptical of that theory.

Here was his reasons because a few of these things didn't make sense:

*When Cobb was on the run from the Cobol agents, Saito appeared out of nowhere and picked him up.

My counter to this is that Saito knew he where he was in the first place when he went to pick up Eames (Forger). My friend thinks since it was still a dream, Cobb wanted that to happen since he controls his dreams.

*When Cobb was explaining the part with Mal in the anniversary suite, she was on the opposite building window.

For me I kinda went along with this but I think she could of shimmied over to the other side. It's kinda out there but who knows...

*Because Cobb had wanted to be with his children for the longest time, the father-in-law performed inception on him and the whole movie is his dream.

THIS is reeeeeeally out there. His father-in-law was a minor appearance but he was Cobb's mentor so he could of done it. However I think it's unlikely he did.

*Since that Cobb's totem was actually Mal's it doesn't apply to him.

I think someone explained this already in the thread but maybe you can explain this one again. I'm still confused on it.

These were only few of the things he thought on why the whole movie was in just Cobb's own mind. I don't really think so.

The idea that sashi pointed out on the wedding ring, my friend told me that too. I'm going to have to wait til I get it on DVD and watch it again. And if Nolan decides to release some extra stuff on the DVD explaining some bits I think I'll be good.

I don't really chime in but hears my 2 cents (mind you i saw this opening night)

Everyone keeps saying it wasn't a dream, it wasn't a dream. What i got out of i was it was ALL a dream from the time he & his wife were stuck in limbo. I believe from the point were his wife jumped She woke up.

Now we know his wife was the first to have a totem, they said no one else should ever touch it but of course he had it. We saw him pick it up in limbo, but if he never left how would he know the weight or the feel? The totem wouldn't work for him if he never touched it. So it could fall or not in a dream.

My big hook was the kids though. You could tell that its been a good wile since he has seen his kids don't you think they would have aged even a little regardless of what they were wearing.

Anyways that's what i got out of it.

Those were one of the confusing hints left behind by Nolan, IMHO, he let the children look the same way because he still wanted to tease the audience as to thinking that what we thought of was reality was a dream, but you can differentiate reality with the dream with Cobb's wedding ring.

Regarding the totem, he got it from when his wife and him woke up from the limbo remember? When they were in the room and his wife was devastated and wanted to kill herself with the knife. Let's assume that it is a level higher than limbo, could be reality, could be a dream, but that's how Cobb got a hold of the Mal's totem, and the possibility of it being reality is already fitting based on the story and concepts already presented to us. And the hidden reality is, the wedding ring is Cobb's totem, and not the top.

Warner Bros has released a 19-page Inception prologue comic book on Yahoo! Movies. Written by Jordan Goldberg, and featuring art by Long Vo, Joe Ng, and Crystal Reid, Inception: The Cobol Job tells the story of the job that Cobb (the character played by Leonardo DiCaprio in the film) and his team take on, which leads to the opening of the feature film. Head on over to Yahoo to read the comic in a built in web comic reader (which has fancy transistions from frame to frame like the comic app on the iPad) or download the PDF file.

I saw this movie on Saturday night and loved it. It was fantastic, intelligent, and Nolan did a good job of explaining it without making the audience feel retarded.

I would've enjoyed the movie more if the girl sitting next to me didn't constantly ask her friend what was happening.

I am guilty of talking to my best friend and or sister about the movie I am watching....especially if we make fun of something and laugh about it. We DO tr and stay quiet...but that's one of the best parts of going to a movie for me.

Like when we went to see Airbender...dear god that movie was so bad...we just made fun of the WHOLE THING.

But for Inception I was pretty enthralled and silent for the whole thing.

I love this movie, but I'm so confused. I'm going to buy it when DVD comes out.

Ellen Page is so DAMN HOT! Her walk in this movie... daaaaammmn. :anime:

I wonder if maybe he got his hands on the top before they even went into limbo the first time -- wouldn't that be why he could set it spinning in her dream, planting that seed of doubt? That would give extra weight to the bit when Arthur (probably repeating something Cobb told him) emphasized the idea that you should be the only one to touch your totem "so that you know you're not in someone else's dream." The fact that Cobb had access to Mal's totem could have been what let him perform his "inception" on her. That would emphasize the guilt he felt, adding in a betrayal of trust on top of everything.
