toonami's first original series, Immortal Grand Prix (IGPX) premieres tonight at 10. i liked the micro series, as it seemed to do a lot with like staged combat, but they've made it more of a racing show...i have my doubts. but production IG can do little wrong with production, so let's see how it goes....

I thought it was pretty good. Directing and pacing need a bit of work. If you wanna keep people's attention they gotta not do those long "chill" scenes so often where they play sombre music and cut to shots of the characters just "chillin'".

I would've liked to see a longer battle and more exciting fight, but a more or less loss at first is a good idea to create some character development.

The show's got potential, but I really hope this racing stuff leads to a bigger plot and action that invovles world saving and some kinda epic battle that uses the race bots in a more direct combit situation.

i swear if i see ONE MORE RACING show...or CARD throwing/creature inside the card show

Could be worse...a kiddie version of Knight Rider and Viper or an adaptation of Ryuki and Blade...

Hell...G-Savior the Series.

I keep thinking this says K-1 Grand Prix...

I'm like "Yeah! Musashi beat Alex Ishnakov!"

It's like Zoids Zero meets Hot Wheels World Race..... but less exciting in all respects.

The music is just too damned sombre. It doesn't inspire excitement like it should. The action comes too little and too late. I thought it was cool seeing Takeshi wielding a sword as a reflection of his concentrated strike, but that was the only moment I really found exciting.

Whole fights should be an intricate dance like what was saw in Zoids Zero and races should be break neck like they feel in World Race.

I said before, I hope this is just the surface. That this'll lead to more and actual serious combat to save the world against a greater threat or something and not just be a racing anime.

Animation, pacing and voice acting are all top of the line, but if Team Satomi wants to compete against the FMA's, Narutos and other heavey hitter anime out there they gotta pick up the action and make it awesome.

I enjoy it because I'm down with Toonami and can appreciate this accomplishment they've achieved in making their own anime, but if they wanna mak it a success so that people are cosplaying and dying for merchandise, they need better costumes and more intericate excitment on both a mech and personal level.

It frustrated me that the coaches in their stands were practically falling asleep while watching the race instead of occaisionally imparting some bit of advice, observation or tactic. And in the end all it came down to was some simple riddle that wastes the teams' time when if it was as simple as, "find a week point" it could've just been said.

Actually I would've preferred it drawn out to the heroes. Explain what this week point was that they see, tell them how to hit it, "but it's a slim chance and if you miss.... you could lose it all. You've only got one shot at this..." and then crank up the music to something exciting to see Takeshi give it all or nothing and then have one of the defenders help out and see that teamwork brings them to the finish the victors.

So far the show's average and offers less in meaty plot that Gundam SEED and Yu Yu Hakasho, both of which got cut from the line-up. I'm not sure how IGPX'll be able to hang.

The show continues to grow on me and I think it'll be my next Gundam SEED.

Like with Gundam SEED I could see how it could be boring to some and also see that it wouldn't hit its target demo. But the feel and pacing of the storytelling seems to show there's genuine talent behind this show.

Each episode seems to get better at telling a good and worthwhile story with ever episode. We even got some nice anime character developement and depth out of River who seemd just to be a peripheral complainer, but now seems to show that he could be quite more in the dynamic of the cast of characters.

While I was hoping for a knock down drag out fight between Cunningham and Takashi, I liked how it played out and how Cunningham's ablity is so far above and impossibly attainable from Takashi that when the rematch occurs it's going to be something spectacular.

All the voices are on and I'm surprised how well Michelle Rodriguez does in her roll. I never figured her one for taking anime seriously. Haley Joel too.

Animation is fluid and excellent and the story pacing was much better and tighter this episode. I liked the music as well.

I wish they had come up with a better name than just "mech" for the racers.

Anyway, I feel the show is excellent and is on my must watch anime list as Gundam SEED once was. Something that soothes and stimulates my mind with every episode. But with every episode I feel that it's counting down until it's moved to late night Friday airing.

I really like that samurai pass Takashi and Cunningham did with the phantom swords to test each others ability as warriors.

I also liked the simulator battle River had with Takashi's sim-avatar. I do hope this is something that will continue to develope in the future.

I feel this show is artfull and well done, but just not fast paced or with any kind of iconic gimmick that will snag a lot of fans and make it anything big.

I'm definately looking forward to the next episode and I wish they'd have an encore just in case I wasn't able to catch an episode, cuz with this I don't want to miss a one.

thank you, keith, for letting me know that SOMEBODY else out there is loving this show! you're totally on the money about how the show is generall pretty calm in atmosphere, but you're stimulated so you keep watching. it's going to be part of my collection, oh yes, once the dvds start coming out in jan/feb with the uncut versions and japanese audio tracks (not that this dub isn't completely awesome ^_^). first disc also comes with a team satomi t-shirt, so i'm totally there.

ps- i hope to God this doesnt get moved to friday night late...eugh >_< screwed me on both Seed and Cyborg 009...
