HJU Cookbook

Ha! I just realized my kC-friendliest recipe-- well, recipes, really. See, I'm not as good at eating my veggies as I probably should be, but roasted vegetables? I'm all about that.

Roasted Green Beans
Hardware:
Baking sheet
Aluminum foil

Software:
1 lb. fresh green beans, washed & stems trimmed
olive oil
salt
pepper

-Preheat oven to 450
-toss green beans with two tablespoons of oil, and a couple of pinches of salt
-arrange in single layer on foil-lined baking sheet
-bake for 8-10 minutes
-shake tray to redistribute beans, grind some pepper onto beans, bake for another 6-10 minutes until beans are browned
-serve immediately

The beans come out like french fries, dried out and crispy and a little sweet. I can seriously eat a pound of green beans this way. For extra credit, sprinkle a teaspoon or so of truffle oil onto the beans. =9

Yay for veggies!

So I finally found my copy of this recipe that I love. It's for Spicy Sloppy Joes. Yea I know what your thinking, "You dont eat meat". Well there are plenty soy products out there that help. but I do want one of you meat-eaters to try this and tell me how it turns out with ground beef.

Spicy Sloppy Joes

3 Tbs. Canola Oil
4 large garlic cloves minced
1 large green pepper chopped
1 1/2 lb soy crumbles (or ground beef for you meat eaters)
3 Tbs. chili powder
1-2 jalapeno peppers seeded and diced
1 1/4 cups pale ale or bown ale at room temperature (I use Newcastle)
3/4 cup low-sodium bottles chili sauce
2 Tbs. low-sodium soy sauce
1 cup finely chopped green onion

-Warm oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add garlic and green pepper, and saute, stirring frequently for 5 minutes.
-Stir in soy crumbles and chili powder. Cook 1-2 minutes until fragrent
-Add Jalapenos, ale, chili sauce, and soy sauce and mix well. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer, stirring often for about 15 minutes until thickened.
-Mix in green onions, season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve warm.

Usually makes about 6-8 depending on how sloppy you like your joes.

Ok, going old school for this one. Know one has ever been able to turn down:

KENORI'S SUPER THIN GRILLED CHEEZE!!
Stuffs
1 - Pan
2 - Slices of Bread (per Serving)
2 - Slices of Cheeze (per Serving)
Lots! - Butter (per Serving)
1 - Spatula
FIRE!!!!

Ok, what you wanna do is turn the eye you are using on Hi (this is how I make it ok, dont complain about FIRE and whatnot), and turn the fan on above your stove (trust me, youre gonna need it). Then throw a small dallop (about hte size of your first to fingers) into the heated skillet, then let the butter melt to liquid and toss on a stack of bread and cheese. Now PUSH HARD!!! Make it nice and thin. After a few seconds (or minutes, depending on how brown you like yours) lift the sucker up and throw somemore butter on the skillet and flip the sandwich. Again, PUSH HARD!!! Make it nice and flat. Once thats done, toss it on a plate, repeat previous as needed, and serve with a nice glass of milk.

I kid you not, I had to make about 15 of these one day for my family. They love em.

I just tried this for dinner tonight....SUPER DELICIOUS!!

So tonight for dinner, I made menchi katsu, and oh MAN. I now TOTALLY understand why Ken and Jan were fighting over those things. They combine the crunchy goodness of fried chicken and the tastiness of burgers.
