Guyver...Another Possible American Tokusatsu?

Guyver was pretty good.

Guyver: Dark Hero was the best movie ever and felt like a old school movement like Saban's Power Rangers and Kamen Rider Dragon Knight. Gotta love it.

There was supposed to have the third film, but it turned down. Is that true?

Rumor was that Shuusuke Kaneko was going to direct the third one, and filming would take place in Canada. But it fell through, it seems.

Wang probably wouldn't have directed it, as he had too many creative conflicts with creator Yoshiki Takaya, who objected to many of the changes he made (though he was impressed with the Guyver-Zoanoid).

I'm amazed people didn't even know about the Guyver movies O_o That's a pretty big western toku production right there.

I saw the movies again recently too and well the first one....god that was really shite, the suits and all were cool but the action felt too slow, but kudos on the big boss (I forgot his name) that was an awesome fight.

The second one though, that was the ****, the fights were epic but yeah not the best of acting on hayter's part Xd

Oh shiiiiiit, I remember seeing this as a freaking kid but I could never remember the name. Thank you Kageki for making this thread!

No problem, I'm just glad that I'm not the only one who has ever heard of it.

it's not surprising since guyver is influenced by tokusatsu shows.

actually I don't know if any of you have heard of 'megadiver' ?
guyver was heavily influenced by that and also something called Harmageddon. the name for guyver was derived from megadiver.
take out the 'me' and the 'd'.

the heaviest influence of guyver story line however was by shows by 'p productions'. but I don't know much about these shows.

And who worked on the manga Harmageddon was based on? Ishinomori Shotaro. All roads lead home.

ah! interesting!

it has been said in the past that guyver was somehow influenced by kamen rider... however, I have never found anything to substantiate that, so i regard it as rumour. it is interesting though... since there are many similarity.

the chitin armour suggests bug motif, a lone warrior who henshins and fights the monster. tries to take down a organisation of superhumans.

Guyver is inspired by Godzilla (especially because of the Mega-Smasher), Ultraman, and Masked Rider. He's definitely a tribute to the best!

Fun Fact:

I heard somewhere that Yoshiki Takaya based Guyver on several things, including Kamen Rider.

Also I believe I heard somewhere that it was one of Todd McFarlane's inspirations for Spawn...
