Gunmen killed 14 at a Batman film showing

i say dont call this guy the joker, because taking innocent lives is not a joke. hes a terrorist who deserves more than the book thrown at him. yeah, he may be in custody and i thank auroras finest and the find young men who protected their girlfriends. those people are my heroes.

but some parents are scared of taking their children to a movie because of this asshole. my youngest brother is autistic and he is a huge batman fan and loves super heroes and jason frank was very, very, very kind to him at a seminar many years ago. he will be 25 in a couple of weeks but he is still mentally a child. my sister has 5 kids and they love super heroes like any other child. i am on the other side of the world right now and i do fear for their safety without me to look after them from monsters like holmes.

i hear that holmes is on suicide watch and in solitary confinement. i hear that the dudes in jail wanna **** him up real bad. i say lets hope that doesnt happen before justice does.

sadly, if someone like jared loughner from the tucson/gabrielle giffords shootings can get off on insanity and be put in a ward along with the reagan shooter, then concievably, so can holmes. yes, the prosecution has an EXCELLENT case that the act was premeditated but if holmes freaks out like loughner (and there was plenty of evidence to prove that his act was also premeditated) did, then the judge can say he is insane. i know in the end, justice will be served.

as for the gun control issue, i heard that aurora already had strict gun control laws. im pretty sure after columbine, that area upped their laws on guns. yes, i believe that we should keep guns out of the hands of criminals. but how is a gun salesman supposed to know if holmes was gonna commit this massacre if his own family and friends didnt see it coming? prior to this, his only record was a traffic violation. will full out banning guns solve the problem? maybe. maybe not. but i believe in education over legislation on all social issues.

but some people can argue that if the audience or one member came in was armed, they could have helped. my father would beg to differ and he was in the military for 25 years and served in vietnam and the first iraq war and says the attack was well planned out (he did not say this to praise holmes in anyway) and that any help wouldnt have made a difference. the exits were blocked off with tear gas and the theater was packed. people are panicking to the nearest exit and piling on each other and are jammed. more gun fire could have resulted to more injuries and casualties. plus, the tear gas would have hurt the other peoples concentration and vision and holmes had body armor and a gas mask. with people in your way and running and panicking and with holmes in armor, it was just impossible to have any fighting chance. this was just a tragedy that we never saw coming (even from those closest to him), but shouldnt have happened. outside of high school rotc, i have not served in uniform, but i do have training in both armed and unarmed combat and i can 100% agree with my father's evaluation of this unfortunate incident.

but incidents like this makes me feel sad that im from america and i live in japan, one of those most safest countries in the world. times like this i explain that **** like this doesnt represent who i am and where i come from. yes, japan is a very safe country to the point that i see elementary students on the trains after midnight! but yes, it does have its problems but id take living in tokyo over phoenix any day of the week, twice on sunday.

my thoughts and prayers go to those victims. if anything, i am ready to make a donation to the hospital or any associated charity and be of some help to my fellow batman fans and human beings. that is the least we can all do for these innocent people.

I'm curious, how does Japan pull that off? As far as I know, it seems a very secularized country so you probably can't argue a strong religious/moral ethic that controls people. The culture generally seems stricter than those of most Western countries. There is no equivalent to the Second Amendment there to my knowledge, but prisoners still get sentenced to hard labor and executions still occur (Without the legal deadlock of America, but correct me if I'm wrong. By the way, are Western countries the only ones who have given up hanging?). Kids traveling alone sounds like pre-70s America. What is the secret?

AFAIK, in Japan even police have to have special permission in order to bring firearms.

I think the USA is the only reasonably sized country which somehow gets the "Everyone can bear firearms" creed to work.

It doesn't matter if guns are integral. They are a weapon and if people have to defend themselves, they'll break the law to get one or use knives or some lower weapon like axes. Gun laws do not matter if they are not properly enforced and besides , do criminals follow the law? You would be foolish to believe that and that guns kills people. As a friend once did , she did a test with a gun to see if it could kill by itself by leaving it on the ground. Hours later it was still there.

They're not cars, it's not like they have any other purpose of use than to shoot and kill people.

If anything , most people should be acquainted with guns, should be able to use one and be able to freely have them ( and be encouraged to do so ,provided they take classes). If it was promoted rather than marginalized , gun and martial artist knowledge rather than ignorance would go a long way to stopping many of these terrorists, even on Airplanes. Ergo, the cabin is locked off from the plane and should be bullet proof.

You want to train an entire nation for that one time where terrorists killed people? Your solution is to literally make an army with regular people? That is mental thinking and the worst solution to a terrible situation. It's the Batman analogy, they get guns, we get bullet proof vests, they get armour piercing rounds. Where does it stop? Until everyone is dead? At least they had a chance to fight back, that's clearly the important fact here.

Everyone should be required to take classes in martial arts , take gun training, and learn to deal and thrive within reality without conflict. The fact that everyone should be required to have guns (and be somewhat trained to use them and disarm) and be able to defend oneself and others against a threat like the shooter in Aurora (which means ridding of the restrictions by theaters to disarm oneself) . Criminals will commit a crime with any weapon, and that means anything, so we should we live in bubbles?

Nope, this post got crazier.

And it would be like saying that those whom are British love having crooked teeth and that being assholes is integral to one's culture. Is that fair now?:eyebrow:

No, because having bad teeth isn't written into a law here.

Is anyone here saying he should have been able to buy such arsenal? No. So what are you talking about? Supporting the Second Amendment doesn't mean everyone now has a right to buy a tank.

And that blurb left out the military-grade drum magazines he purchased.

I find it frankly terrifying that the only people capable of taking on objective stance on the United States' gun policy are foreigners.

Who is not being objective? Are people reading what others are posting here? No one is ok with the type of weapons Holmes purchased. Anyone with sense can agree that there should be restrictions on what type of guns people are allowed to own.

But that is quite different from deriding Americans as "being in love with their guns" and saying everyone's guns should be taken away. Do you not understand why the Second Amendment exists? It was not written for the sake of trigger-happy backwater folk. James Madison wasn't exactly firing a rifle at random animals from his porch while kissing the barrel in between shots.

I`m somewhat split on the gun issue..I do believe people have a right to defend themselves, but on the other hand there is obviously a problem with violent crime involving guns here in the U.S.

Here is a true story of pure hypocrisy....shortly after the Virginia Tech shootings, there was a letter to the editor in my local paper(based in Richmond,Indiana). This person said we shouldn`t blame guns, blame other people, but blame the only one responsible...the gunman.

Sounds pretty reasonable,right?

Here`s more....

He then goes on to say how it`s video games, movies, music, etc. are to blame.IN THE SAME FREAKING BREATH.

Why say we can`t blame anyone or anything but then do the exact same thing you`re preaching against?
