Gunmen killed 14 at a Batman film showing

To be fair, media can have an influence over how people think and act. Although the blame ultimately rests with Holmes, and you can say that parents are responsible for what kids see, I don't think it's egregious to propose that a saturation of graphic violence in movies can have an affect on someone's mind.

I mostly have doubts due to similar comments on almost any new technology and or craze.

Books are evil. They will give you ungodly knowledge.

Pictures are evil. They suck away your soul.

Movies are evil. Moving pictures are unnatural.

[insert religious affiliation) is Evil.
Atheists are evil.
[insert ethnic background] is evil.

Jazz is evil. That sound is strange.
Blues is evil.

Rock and Roll is Evil. IT is the devil's music, therefore anyone whom likes it are whores and satanists.

TV is evil.Kids will reenact it because they are stupid. It will take away time to go outside.

Video Games are evil. Kids who play games will reenact it literally in real life like zombies.

Computers Are Evil. Geeks in extension are nutcase wizards waiting to happen.

The Internet is evil and creates antisocial freaks.

Social Media will make people not go outside and interact socially. Somewhat true.

Pokemon is the devil. A game where apparently who summon Demonic creatures from hell with power magic to battle against each other in their pockets while casting spells and being psychic. I wish that was Pokemon.

Oh and apparently they assemble in gangs and are so used to killing each other that somehow , this guy opens up the possibility of immortality because frankly, I have never died from playing Pokemon.

Cellphones are evil, Texting is evil, etc. The loons don't stop. They just insert whatever name and call it evil. Really creative.

No. If a person has deep issues like that anything can set them off. To blame movies is just idiotic.

I'm not blaming movies. I'm blaming Holmes. But why jump at any argument that says certain things in society can affect people negatively? Are you saying promoting and/or glamorizing graphic violence in media has no affect on people, even those who may not be crazy?

And by the way, why was this guy allowed to buy drum magazines? Aren't those mainly for military purposes? How did a civilian attain something like that which allowed him to kill and injure so many?

I blame the almost non-existent weapon laws.
When almost every idiot can get weapons, ammonition and explosives so easily it´s no wonder that such things happen....and no one seems to learn from that because of the damn powerful american gun lobbies. Especially when it´s Election-time there.

IMO, anyone that blames any kind of media for how people act.. I just find it stupid. I watched violent movies, tv, and other things growing up. Thing is, I had grandparents that explained right and wrong to me. They also explained what is real and what isn't. Anymore parents just don't seem to care about that stuff. Instead they blame everything else when their kids or other people do crazy things.

He would have killed people either way.

Yeah and having tighter gun laws sure would make it harder for criminals and those looking to break the law to get guns right? People that are out to break the law don't care about gun laws.

Well there you go. Kids need stuff like that. (Though it can still be argued that the degree of violence portrayed decades ago was less than it is now; and also movies showing that the villain always met a bad end were the norm, instead of often getting away with it in one way or another.)

Think about this: 50 or so years ago high schools had rifle teams. Yet almost never did anyone go around on a killing spree. Nowadays a rifle team would be unthinkable. What changed between society then and society now?

Yeah it would make it harder but you don´t seem to understand that.
