YEP, Build Fighters pretty much homaged Gundam Wing with Ricardo opening his eyes & Fenice powering up one more time.

Not a bad homage honestly, because it kicked ass.

Yeah there was quite a bit of gundam wing references this episode to the point where I was surprised that the Fenice didn't self destruct at the end.

They even have the same Gunpla

Not likely not unless the lead changed his name at some point.
