oh and like the phantom menace thru revenge of the sith wasn't? because we all loved emo vader, and the lame to the core deaths of mace windu, general grievous, and jango fett. give me a break; the last he did right was indiana jones.

Lucas can blow me. The entire prequel trilogy was insultingly vapid, with torturous, cliched dialogue; its sole redeeming feature was eye candy. And he dares call someone else's movie "silly?" Hey George, phone for you. It's the kettle. It says "shut the f*** up."

I'm sorry, but I just spent yesterday dealing with this on another forum. The man was clearly joking (as Keith seems to get), especially with his "People said Star Wars was silly, but it wasn't." quote. Don't let the nerd rage over Episode I spill onto these boards, too.
*sigh* At least no one's started calling him a "hack" and talking about how he OBVIOUSLY did no work at ALL on the original trilogy yet.

And people really think George Lucas is a profound master artist!?
He was always cynical and self-indulgent. Star Wars, as much as I still love it, is a self-indulgent space-fantasy. Basically, it was Plan 9 from Outer Space . . . only good. (And I love Plan 9 from Outer Space! Scary, huh?) George Lucas thought Star Wars was going to BOMB (and it did, critically, but it was 100 fold times the opposite financially)! People who cling to the Star Wars franchise like a security blanket have great difficulty accepting this. (And there are already a lot of things about my favorite genres that even I take for granted!)
I've been mostly annoyed with George Lucas in the past decade, but his dissing Spider-Man takes the cake. (As if he could do the new Spider-Man movies better!?) He has such a supernatural gift of being a hated individual, and at the same time, ironically being profoundly famous for changing the world in 1977. It's beyond ridiculous.
