Dragonball Kai - Talk UP!

I might end up buying the box sets of this one.

And if you prefer your anime subbed, it would probably be better to get this version too, as none of the previous US DVD releases ever did anything to clean up the original audio AT ALL, which made for some ugly sound quality drops when I got curious about some character's original voices.

One thing I do noticed though.........why the **** did they change the VA for the younger Gohan? C'MON SON

Does it really matter that much that some of the voices were recast just for this one-shot refurbishing of DBZ? I think Chris himself said that the change was to make the voices a little closer to their Japanese counterparts, but don't quote me on that. Still, I don't see anything wrong. The few new VA's we have are doing a great job for their respective rolls, and didn't they use the original alumni for their DBZ Remastered & Dragon Box sets?

EDIT: Besides, the new VA's are some of the best VA's Chris could find. Young Gohan is being played by Colleen Clinkenbeard, the same person who voices Luffy. How cool is that?!

Not cool at all! I want my old Gohan back there was nothing wrong with my old Gohan but you had to go and replace with this bigger, shinier, Gohan and flush my old Gohan down the toilet!

And the new Jeice sounds like a dick!

If they redubbed it, did they at least keep the amazing English soundtrack for the episodes? I mean, I always thought the japanese version music sucked. Sorry, just my opinion. But the DBZ in america had bitchin techno tracks and wicked vibes going on. Hope they didnt drop that.

I totally agree!! I myself enjoy DBZ in Japanese but Bruce Faulconer's music in Funi's dub add's more excitement to the show!!

The Japanese actually made a new soundtrack for this series and the english version is using that. Thought they kinda dropped the ball on the Ginyu Force.

While watching the Kai series, I didn't realize DBZ was so one tracked. Like I here's how I sum it up. " *Surprise, I shyt my pants look* Oh my gosh, I sense a great Power!"

and the Goku what's taking you so long to get here save our asses..then die...again.

I heard Toshiki Inoue was part of the writing staff for the original DBZ series.........there was your problem, sir.

With Kai, I believe they've eliminated all the filler bullcrap that the original DBZ writing staff put into DBZ (the **** Inoue made most likely) and we're basically getting the true meat of the series without the filler ****.

Edit: Nevermind, it has only been confirmed so far that Inoue was part of the writing staff of the Dragon Ball movie......."Dragon Ball: Curse of the Blood Rubies." With that being said, Inoue still might have had some involvement in DBZ or DBGT due to this fact that he did write a movie for the first Dragon Ball series

For Z/Kai specifically, he was only involved with 3 non filler episodes of Z during the Saiyan arc and the episodes that covered his Z material in Kai. The lesson for today is: don't go around blindly accusing people. :loltongue:

DBZ was just a victim of the era when it was made. A lot of 90s manga adaptations would take plot points or storylines that the anime creators knew manga fans liked and s-t-r-e-t-c-h them out, intentionally letting the popular elements have more screentime. It was generally argued by proponents of this style that doing so created more tension, but what it actually did was cut down on the number of original filler episode scripts they had to commission. The creation of DBZ Kai is pretty much history's verdict on that style.
