Do you pay much attention to typesetting?

Hello.A common controversial theme in the fansubbing world is the question of typesetting.
Teams sometimes dont agree about what is a good typesetting, blaming a typesetting for being too flashy for example.

As far as iam concerned , as long as i can read the subsin a show, i am not shocked if a typesetting uses flashy colors,or white, black, blue, etc, as long as it doesnt burn my eyes.

According to you , why is typesetting a common place for arguments between fansubbers, even more than translation in itself, which should be more important?

What about you?Do you grant importance to typsetting when you watch a subbed show?

After starting to use the other groups, O-T, KITsubs and so on where it's just plain text all the way through it doesn't affect me as much.

I do however try to avoid subs that have the text dancing around the screen.

I tend to not really care at leat most of the time, if it's an older series a white font is kinda more appropriate IMO like around 70's-80's newer series it doesn't really bother me the typeseeting could be green for all i care or Hulk Hogan colors.

I don't like yellow subs.

Anything besides HK-looking yellow subs is okay.

Unless their translations are bad...

I've never cared for the gratuitous use of lavish colors, scrolling animated effects and karaoke lyrics during theme music during the actual show (actually, this is one of my biggest irks), but as long as the typesetter is competent enough to choose a simple, legible, clearly presented an unobtrusive font, then there's a lot of room for error.

I don't like yellow font.
I don't like serif fonts or any fancy looking fonts that can't be read in a split second.
I don't like special effects.

So, anything else, I'm usually okay with. I prefer white font, but hey, whatever.

And of course the translation is the most important! People really argue otherwise? :disappoin

Aren't HK subs terrible in the first place?

"Scorpion Penis" and "Don't Molest They Lawyer" are prime examples, and sadly they also generate memes.

I can be 50/50 about karaoke effects. And I never really encountered a fansub that used an otherwise illegible font, at least none that I can remember off the top of my head.

Really, these days, the things that attract me most are softsubs. Hardsubs are an outdated way of doing things, and most of the time you have to adjust the video by adding black bars if you want the subs to be readable on your average, standard definition TV sets. Ruins the quality completely. As long as I have softsubs, any effects or whatever else are pure bonus.

Not sure how to make softsub videos into DVD or BluRay subtitles, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

Oh man that horrible yellow font that's pretty much unreadable *shudders*

Aside from that I don't really care. I never found the "all singing all dancing" ones to be distracting in any way. I'm a bit of a spelling nazi though. If the sub can't go three minutes without a really obvious error then I start grinding my teeth. Yes, it's hypocritical as I make spelling errors all the time, but it somehow bugs me much more than the fonts do.
