Do you pay much attention to typesetting?

Short answer: Not unless the typeface makes it difficult for me to read. A couple of the fonts TV-N used for Magiranger and Dairanger fell into this category, but I'm generally fine with anything

Fancy typesetting and karaoke is what groups use to cover up crappy translations. The want you focused on the OMG SUPER FANCY EFFECTS rather than the point of a fansub.

Plain, utilitarian softsubs for me, please! I like the simplicity. Anything more distracts from the show at hand.

otakings video on fansubs is how i exactly feel about them. especially on lazier fansubs and just wants to be more weeabooish on the translations.

thankfully, i know enough japanese now to watch without subs :thumbs:

My main problem with colored subs is that depending on the video coding, they have a tendency to bleed

And if a special font is used for a certain character in particular that is also colored, that makes it even more difficult to decipher

Just give with pure white, easy to read subs, and I'm good

I can do without the fancy graphics and translator notes

Aren't HK subs terrible in the first place?

"Scorpion Penis" and "Don't Molest They Lawyer" are prime examples, and sadly they also generate memes.

I know some fansub groups that actually use yellow font..They're not always HK subs.

Know i don't mind if a group uses the yellow font and i wasn't comparing them all the HK subs, i just mentioned casually that HK subs themselves suck, not that their the color yellow.
