Darkest/Best Ultraman series?

Forever Knight

Eye See You
I got a massive Ultraman haul coming in this month, next month, and December.

Now, I was just wondering what were the absolute best and the darkest Ultraman series?.

I know Nexus (watched already) was the darkest and Fans consider Ultra Seven, Tiga (which I'm watching right now) and the original Ultraman series (watched already) to be the best.

What others are there?. I want my next batch of Ultras to be the best of the best.

Well, you already mentioned Seven (come on, an episode was so dark it's still banned).

I don't think Ultraman Leo's too bad. But you should probably also check out Ultraman Gaia. Hassei Takano (Raia & The First's Rider 2) plays the sort of rival Ultraman in the series, who adds an interesting twist to the series.

For the classic/showa era, I'd recommend Ultraman Ace and Ultraman Leo. They have some of the most brutal and bloody Ultra fights scenes. In Ace, you'll get to see interesting stuffs like more teamups/assistance from the previous Ultrabrothers (in this case, Ultras like Zoffy, the original Ultraman, Ultraseven and Jack), blood splurting out from monsters, slice and dice fighting styles and other violent stuffs. I think there's several vampire-filler-stuffs somewhere too.

That's still not the best part yet. If you managed to get your hands on Ultraman Leo, its even better. I find it to be the darkest (as you like to call this particular mood) out of the classic Ultraman series. You'll get stuffs like.... (several mini spoilers)

Members of the defence team getting killed more frequently (which normally doesn't happen in other series) since they are the permanent staffs, lots of practice fightings by the Ultraman host and even a baddy sawing a live body into different parts (gotta see to believe it). So, yeah, its pretty "dark" and gruesome. Even from the start, we were told that this Ultra warrior had a sad past, regarding his home planet and his brother (kinda like a Minami Kotaro/Nobuhiko situation). Heck, I think I'll consider Leo as the Kamen Rider Black of the Ultraman franchise.[/HIDE]
Plus, you'll get Dan/Ultraseven in it (even though he's not in Ultra form for the majority of the series.

Here is what I got so far: (highlighted = what ive watched)

1966 Ultraman (39 episodes, 8 discs, dubbed).
1973 Ultraman Taro (45 episodes, computer, raw).
1998 Ultraman Tiga & Dyna: The Warriors of the Star of Light (1 disc, raw, Mandarin dub).
1996 Ultraman Tiga (52 episodes, 8 discs, raw & dub).
1998 Ultraman Dyna: Return of Hanejiro (1 disc, raw, Chinese dub).
1998 Ultraman Tiga: Return of the Ancient Giant (1 disc, raw, Chinese dub).
1998 Ultraman Gaia (51 episodes, 6 discs, raw).
1999 Ultraman Gaia: The Battle in Hyperspace (1 disc, subs/dub).
2000 Ultraman Tiga: Final Odyssey (1 disc, raw, Chinese dub).

2001 Ultraman Cosmos: First Contact (1 disc, raw, Chinese dub).
2002 Ultraman Cosmos: Blue Planet (1 disc, raw, Chinese dub).
2003 Ultraman Cosmos vs. Ultraman Justice: Final Battle (1 disc, subs).
2004 Ultraman The Next (1 disc, subs).
2004 Ultraman Nexus (37 episodes, 5 discs, 1-20 subs).

2005 Ultraman Max (10 episodes, computer, subs).
2006 Ultraman Mebius (6 episodes, computer, subs).

I'm expecting the Ultra Seven Dub very soon and I already have Gaia (like Shougo recommended). So I guess I should get Leo & Ace as quick as possible.

I haven't seen any of the older Ultraman shows so far, so I'm gonna say Ultraman Nexus is one of the darkest and compelling Ultraman shows out there.

Even though it's considered as a flop...

Oh, thank God! I was afraid that all Ultraman shows were like Mebius. I really want to check out Leo and Ace, now. Thanks, man.
