Chinese is Hard to Understand... :(

Yeah, I'm sure if you listen to the language as much as you do Japanese, you'll understand it better.

Well Chines is easier to read but difficult to pronounce and it is harder than Japanese. example 氷山=bian shān
Japanese on the other hand is difficult to read in terms of Kanji reading as there are lots of inconsistencies in it's reading but easier to pronounce like "氷 (Koori)" Ice and "Yama (山)" Mountain combined = 氷山 which should have read as "Kooriyama" for beginners but this one is read as hyoozan/hyozan instead.

Chinese sometimes doesn't even sound as it is transliterated. That's one of the main reasons I haven't tried to learn any.

i don't think chinese is any harder than any other language to learn. i think it's just that u're used to listening to jpn and picking out random words. on the rare occassion that i watch chinese movies/dramas/etc i find myself picking out words from my extremely limited vocab from the dialogue. when i happen to hear a phrase i completely understand (one line out of say... 4-5 eps? XD) it's not any harder than picking out jpn to me. (i have a year's worth of hs mandarin for backup)

i think u just need to practice listening to it. :anime:

lol yes. As soon as I finished watching Lust, Caution... I could not tell you what it was about. Some political scandalous crap... I dunno...
All I remember is... Leehom killed some guy, he was important but I have no recollection of who he was or why they killed him, and was very hot doing so because he was all muscly.

... And the rest was soft-core porn. Very detailed... soft-core porn.

DO NOT watch with your mother. lol

And to be on topic. Chinese is hard to speak but not much harder to understand if you hear it often enough. It gets hard when you have people mumbling.
