China Builds A Giant Bootleg Gundam

That Gundam is as dumb as a ninja that dresses in an orange jump suit.

This is Yellow but my point remains the same.

Yep! Well I'm asian, Bangladeshi to be specific, but I was born in Britain, so I'm British-Bangladeshi!:D

Cool.

not over them explosions :loltongue:

So you just pretend "Burning Gundam" doesn't exist?

To those who have never seen it or heard of it, it doesn't exist. They just know of the God Gundam.

Why is "DEVIL" so taboo?

Seriously, this isn't the first time I've seen this change

Are they really that afraid of religious acknowledgement?

You know that the Christians have taken most of the major positions and they find these things offensive. They just are there and they make sense to the Japanese people, but some just won't get over that fact.

If you look at the Duel Monsters cards, many of them have been drastically changed. "Demon" is "Archfiend" and this actually ruins what is later established as a group of cards that is used in some strategies through their names.

Which would also explain why "MAGIC" cards were changed to "SPELL"

Those lard ridden soccer moms need to find something better to do before their blood pressure goes through the roof....... :redface2:

The "Magic" to "Spell" was stupid. They really are Magic Cards and they make sense that way. The packs were even changed from "Magic Ruler" to "Spell Ruler." :redface2:

I heard that was 'cause Magic the Gathering said something about there being confusion or something or other and they were gonna sue.

I think part of the problem is that terms like God and Devil don't always have the same connotations in Japan as they do in America. Terms like that are a little more interchangable in Japan, so it make sense to translate the names. In the case of G Gundam, nothing about that robot really makes me think of a high and mighty god. I think that part of the name is just there to imply great superiority.

God Gundam is entirely depicted the way gods are depicted in Buddhist iconography. Pay particular note to the way the fins on its back create the golden halo that Buddhist artwork uses to denote a divine character.

God Gundam is also born from a giant red lotus, for ****'s sake, and grows stronger by meditating. It's a Buddhist deity incarnate as a robot, part of the long tradition (going back to Mazinger Z) of robots being treated as incarnate gods.

Changing God Gundam's name to Burning Gundam perverts every story-significant scene the robot appears in and makes the entire second half of the show less interesting. That arc is about Domon achieving calm and triumphing over his anger, achieving the divine quality of zen. So hey, let's dub his robot's name with a word that connotes anger.

The 'Burning Gundam' name change was an obvious necessity for US TV airing but the name change demands no respect whatsoever as a creative decision. It actively damages the meaning and creative intent of the series on a deeply fundamental level.
