Captain Shark Reviews Gorenger and Beyond!

Super Hero Chronicle:

The ocean in the opening logo freezes as we head to the tower in the North Pole from Saber. A bookcase is chained up filled with manga as the main villain breaks his statue prison. Traps including a pendulum, flaming arrows, and mass produced Logos Riders fail to stop him as he approaches. He steals the books via telekinesis to merge the "forbidden stories" into one because chaos. Cut to the main quadrio from Saber at Saber's bookstore talking about his writer's block and how writers are gods of their stories. A story of Zenkaiger is brought up followed by Carranger, but the latter seems out of order. The room goes crazy and most of them are teleported to Kikaitopia. Juran shows up to meet with Saber, Saikou, and whatsherface. Yeah, toku characters without powers I likely won't remember them at all because it's not about them. Saber realizes which book they are in and we get the Super Hero Chronicle logo. The other Zenkaigers and Seechan wake up on a roof with a tiny stage. They try to remember what happened via hazy flashback. Vroom picks up a book which is what caused them to teleport. Blades meets them on the roof where he guesses their names accurately like in the book. Some clustering around the rider happens while Juran shows the crew around- Wait didn't Espada also get sucked in? Where is he? Some kudakks attack a studio so Saber and Saikou transform to fight followed by Juran as a kid in a white shirt draws what is going on. The kid manages to fend off a world with his pen much to whatshername's amazement. After finishing the villains off the kid reveals his name to be Shotaro. Secchan yells from across dimensions to get their attention, afterward we are in Candy Cafe trying to figure things out followed by going to Northern Base where Durandal mentions Agastya Base. The other female lead whose name I don't remember mentions forbidden S Class books being there and Asmodeus (the main villain) taking over. The books in question are the entire history of Kamen Rider and Super Sentai and with Asmodeus using them it's screwing with their continuities. I'd say Gokaiger did a solid job of that and Zenkaiger isn't exactly guiltless, but you know. Zenkaiser tells his grandmother they're doing well on the other side. Vroom is confused about everything being a story which causes an existential crisis. After that Asmoedus creates Sentai Megid and Rider World for wanton destruction and some speech about turning everything black as black ribbons spread into the sky. Both dimensions do their anomalies- Oh her name was Sophia. Juran, whatshername, Saber, and Shotaro show up in a samurai world while Blades, Secchan, and Zennkaiger wake up in a desert where Oma Zi-O stands over them and changes their clothes to reflect Journey To The West. Also the good Imagins from Kamen Rider Den-O show up for comedic antics. Random foot soldiers from Super Sentai attack so the Imagins fight them off followed by Zenkaiger and Blades transforming to help. Sentai Megid shows up to fight Blades. Also Momotaros can turn into Den-O by himself now for some raisin. The DenLiner shows up and everyone heads aboard, Zenkaiger and Blades enjoying it as Oma Zi-O tells them to go forth. At the samurai world we see various Sentai mentors figting off Sentai grunts lead by Rider World. DekaMaster, Washi Pink, and Ryu Commander take Saber and Juran to a remote location to discuss some swordsman prophecies and hand out cabobs. After that is note exchanging at DenLiner- Oh there's the owner. Cut to Saber and company walking through te woods with Juran mentioning he never read the book. Two swordsmen are spotted near a waterfall who I think are supposed to be Shinken Green and Kiramei Blue- Yup, they transformed while fighting. Oh and they are following a story called Tale of The Eight Dogs which I know nothing about. Juran comedically stops their fight by tripping over a log. Shotaro draws them fighting, not satisfied because those are not the heroes he wants to draw. Saber and company reach a temple where more grunts attack, mostly Sentai grunts but you can clearly see Gamma Commandos from Kamen Rider Ghost with them. In classic Toei editing we go from temple to desert, Sentai Megid holds Secchan hostage while some wordplay on the word hostage is done by the Imagin and then Zi-O shows up for the lolz, turning into Grand Zi-O. Kamen Rider Kabuto saves Secchan before getting a few punches in followed by Drive, Ryuki, and Ghost getting some slashes in. Grand Zi-O dominates and knocks out Sentai Megid, releasing all of the books. A tornado forms around the protagonists before cutting to samurai world where more Sentai grunts show up led by Rider World. More fighting occurs when who should show up but.... Which Red is this- Wait, no, that is Zero One. He acts so similar to modern reds, can you really blame me? Juran throws out his back before transforming. Shotaro draws Washi Pink and Ryu Commander beign the remaining swordsmen in the prophecy that allows them to transform. The heroes combine their swords to form an energy cutter that forces Rider World to cough up his books and a tornado teleports them all elsewhere. The protags meet up with one another, but Shotaro is missing. Blades thinks they fell into a trap as most of the villains show up, proclaiming the area will be their grave. Mostly Sentai grunts again but I can see Space Shocker combatmen, Bugster Viruses from Ex-Aid, and- Wait, Deathworms from Kyuranger are wild animals, why the hell are they not chowing on everything right now!? Technically Baseball Mask from Gorenger is also there, but whatever, semantics. Shotaro is nearby just drawing everyone, but he isn't satisfied as Asmodeus talks to him. He starts ripping pages which causes various protagonists to turn into gold dust. Saber and whatshername are all that's left as they read their own story. Sentai Megid and Rider World mention that it is too late to realize Asmodeus's plan as Shotaro and whatshername and Saber turn into gold dust. The End.

Saber wakes up talking to Blades and whatshername as he finds out the book about is series has no words in it. Follow this up with the background turning into various memories. Saber finds Shotaro Ishinomori's biography and starts seeing moments in it where Sotaro took up manga art. Whatshername likes the art- AND HER NAME WAS MEI! Shotaro wants to stop drawing heroes because when they suffer he feels like he's being evil. Saber mentions how this draws out their humanity like real people. Lots of metaphysical philosophy gets involved to persuade Shotaro making the Rider and Sentai worlds. Blades is unsure of all this, but soon comes around and all three pinky swear they will get out of this. In whatever counts as the real world we see villains chanting Asmodeus's name while the Zangyack Empire helps the Crisis Fortress conquer a city with I assume Time Majins from Zi-O. Asmodeus tells the villains to rampage when Saber and Shotaro pop up and walk toward them. Saber holds out a book named Super Heor Chronicle with him as the author while Shotaro shows off old art for Kamen Rider Ichigo and the Gorengers. Both Ichigo and Akaranger show up and charge in. Both heroes mention their legacies which all spawn at the same time (although for Sentai it's just red rangers). Twokaiser shows up singing his tune complete with YO HO HOI! Asmodeus calls them childish fantasies to which Zenkaiger replies if they were worthless they would not have prevailed for so long followed by Saber stating stories become reality. Transforming happens- No, Henshins happen. Every Logos Rider followed by the Zenkaigers, doing their intros- No, not intros, this is rollcalls. I never once called them rollcalls these last nine years, at the end I finally do. After rollcalls from each side there is a back explosion. CHARGE! YELL! SCREAM! So much chaos and actiony action. This goes on for a while and I am enjoying the hell out of it. I like when Riderman gets his turn he calls himself Kamen Rider Number 4. AND THEN ZENKAIGER SUMMONS THE AKIBARANGERS! THEY MADE THEIR DEBUT IN AN OFFICIAL PRODUCTION! AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love how AkibaRed asks for an autograph before transforming. Secchan mentions how being unofficial makes enemies act uncharacteristically and thus signalling defeat. Asmodeus decides to attack finally, knocking out everyone in one energy cutter blast. A second one happens, but Shotaro blocks it while stating humans are not derivative of each other. Ichigo Rider Kicks Rider World and Akared whips up Sentai Megid. A finishing move fails on Asmodeus, but then the sky turns red- Nope it;s just Kamen Rider Revice showing up for no raisin. Revice and the kaijin whose name I don't know just pummel and wail on Asmodeus until they use their finishing move on him. Yeah, that ruined tension fast- Wait! The machines from earlier, Asmodeus absorbs them all to turn into a blue dragon! And then all Sentai mecha show up for an all out assault! Twokaisers saves all of the Kamen Riders so they can use their finishers in combination with the Sentai mecha. Saber and Zenkaiger confront Asmodeus, now on the ground, the latter turning into a Super Hero Senki book that Saber uses for a grand climax! AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SUPER! HERO! FINAL SLASH! INFINITE RIDER KICKING! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HERO IS FOREVER! Asmodeus explodes and all of the books go back to Agastya Base, Sophia noting the new Revice story added to the collection. Ichigo meets Shotaro and is so happy to see him. Shotaro mentions how he is dead, but is glad he made heroes that outlived him with Ichigo saying they are with children forevermore. Ichigo tells the heroes Riders and Sentai are forever as he gets on Hurricane and drives off into another dimension. Saber states that even if they are characters then they must write their own endings. The ending is filled with various riders and sentai throughout the ages.

Asmodeus: Powers include blue energy cutters from the palms, a human disguise that uses telekinetic explosions and grabbing of objects, a pair of swords that emit blue energy cutters, and a dragon form that flies and emits blue mouth flames
Sentai Megid: Only known power is an ax
Rider World: Only known power is a kanabo

And that's the end. What a ride. I enjoyed the hell out of this journey. I can rest now.

Welp, Dr. Kane can't stop gushing about Donbrothers and if Revice, Geats, and Gotchard being pure epic win taught me anything I might have slept on something good. Coming soon: Captain Shark returns with more Sentai summary malarkey. Donbrothers and maybe Kingranger are about to get ripped into. Before I jump back into the swing of things it never occurred to me to ever rank all of the various teams in terms of personality, costumes, and weapons. Might as well! Here is how Captain Shark ranks all the teams in Super Sentai and going forward I will be updating these at the end of each series.

Favorite Teams:
Kyuranger > Magiranger > Timeranger > Changeman > JAKQ > Go-Onger > Gaoranger > Bioman > Boukenger > Gorenger > Dekaranger > Google-V > Go-Busters > Denziman > Ohranger > GoGo-V > Kyoryuger > Battle Fever J > Flashman > Zyuranger > Megaranger > Sun Vulcan > Ryusoulger > Carranger > Ninninger > Abaranger > Kirameiger > Fiveman > Goseiger > Gingaman > Patraner > Maskman > Jetman > Dairanger > Lupinranger > Hurricanger > Gekiranger > Turboranger > Kakuranger > Zenkaiger > Dynaman > Shinkenger > Toquger > Zyuohger > Liveman > Gokaiger

Just some notes here: Because sentai characters are very samey while personalities did factor this was mostly outfits and arsenal. Mechs were not included. Extra heroes, temporary rangers, replacement rangers, and movie exclusive rangers were included. Gokai Green and Yellow being awful people are the reason their team is at the bottom. Liveman is that far down because of how badly its series handled its themes and outfits. Hurricanger would have been lower if I didn't include the Gouraigers and Shurikenger. Dekaranger having so many rangers did bump it up higher than it would have been if I was only counting the main six. If personalities were bigger factors then every Soda (pop) era team except JAKQ would have been lower even if only by one slot, but if I excluded them entirely Patranger would have been near the bottom. LupinRed shooting his own hand is the main reason Lupinranger wasn't ranked higher because that was a dumb move no matter how you look at it. If I factored in centric episodes the Megaranger episode involving Mega Yellow's grandma would have made this ranked lower. If I didn't count sixth rangers Zyuranger would have been lower, but Ninninger would have been higher. Flashman being the only sentai team to lose in the end was the main reason it wasn't in the top 15. If I was ignoring outfits Shinkenger would have been at the bottom and Turboranger would be higher. If I was judging this solely on arsenals Gekiranger would have been at the bottom. Turboranger's male members being same faced is the main reason it's so low. Dyna Pink has the worst weapon in the franchise, popping out ears is cruel and inhumane, in fact it would have been lower if not for Dyna Black's ninja antics. If I was judging solely on outfits Battle Fever J would be near the bottom. If I judged this purely on helmet design Maskman would be at the bottom. Sun Vulcan's first red ranger doing next to nothing outside of fight sequences is the sole reason it's not higher. The weaknesses of the Go-Busters did hinder them from getting higher. The tone whiplash from JAKQ did not affect the ranking. If transformation devices were factored in at all Denizman would have been ranked lower. If I judged this purely on the red rangers Bioman and GoGo-V would have taken up the top two slots and Changeman would have been higher up. If I was judging solely on sixth rangers Boukenger would have been in the top five and Megaranger and Gekiranger would have been higher up and Dairanger would have been the third worst after Gokaiger and Zyuohger.

Alright, let the complaining commence!

Now to finally rip into Donbrothers aka the most beloved because the guy that wrote that low effort parody called Changerion is the head or something (and he did Jetman, Kamen Rider Faiz, and some spin off books).

"Damn it you came back."

Welcome to Earth, very high in pasta sauce and jumbo shrimp now that Red Lobster is going bankrupt.

"Seriously where have you been?"

2023 I made it a goal to watch every 90s Metal Heroes series and I succeeded by watching at least one episode a day every day from January to mid September. After that I figured I might as well clear out my entire anime backlog which I was able to do quite easily. Lot of bloat, but my backlog is all gone now. After that I got back into Kamen Rider and now I'm going back into Super Sentai.

"How will this be divided up?"

Five parts with ten episodes each.

"And the movies?"

Not gonna cover the crossover with Den-O and the regular movie and Vs. Hurricanger both happened between episodes 19 and 20 so I'll cover the monsters in part 2 there.

"What about the other anniversary movies that came out in the last three years?"

No promises.

"Can't you just trust Dr. Kane and folks on /m/ praising this?"

I have my own sovereignty, I will form my own opinions.

"What about Red Ranger Becomes An Adventurer In Another World?"

Not an official sentai series and quite frankly it's just an ecchi isekai series with a sentai skin on it, nowhere near as good as people say it is despite Solar Aquarion making a cameo in episode 8. As a big Aquarion fan that was cool.

Alright we're off to a bad start. Like a really bad start. So yellow (Oni) got four, black (Inoue) got one, and red (Don) got one while pink (Kiji) and blue (..... Actually they didn't say his name, let me check the wikia....... what kind of name is Saru?) just kind of appear to flap their gums all over the place, so ranger balanced is off balance. The opening is easily the worst in the franchise. I have nothing nice to say, it's bottom tier. Can't call it the worst opening theme ever because that would imply Kamen Rider Build, the worst tokusatsu ever made, is not the worst at something. The comedy is loaded in fourth wall breaks and camera zooms which is pretty half assed. Gone are the nice swirling cinematography the last few series had to give it a dynamic edge from its predecessor. They waited until episode 6 to explain who the villains are which, in a kid series, is too long. My normal go to for measuring bad CGI in toku is Kamen Rider Double, but this might have just knocked it off its throne. The outfits are also the worst in the franchise, everyone looks so damn skinny. There is also a second Zenkaiser because... They wanted a second season I guess. It also goes to show how lazy Zenkaiger was, why did this have to be the series where past teams became monsters of the week? It just raises too many questions. Is it all negative per say? Well... Um... Err... Well, Liveman, Megaranger, Hurricanger, and Ryusoulger all had similar low effort beginnings and I was eventually able to find good parts in those. It doesn't have to be all mouth sandwiches loaded up in hot talking under the umbrella of dialogue. I'd say it needs more action, but better writing on the lore would be much better. I think it's trying to be part mystery series, but the execution makes it hard to structure around.

The executives across the movie and TV landscape are bleeding money! Speaking of failing things lets look into part 2!

Cat Juto: Appears in episode 11. Powers include superhuman speed and high jumping.
Shurikenki: Appears in episode 11. Powers include a giant shuriken stored on the torso and the scalp, cow traps, and spawning up to four duplicates of himself.
Uchuki: Appears in episode 12. Powers include reducing organisms into lights his abdomen can absorb, a long sword, summoning an arena from the back, and purple mouth fire balls.
Zyudenki: Appears in episode 13. His only known power is energy bolts from the head.
Cenrban trio: high jumping
Kousokuki: Appears in episode 14. Powers include turning organisms into shogi pieces, superhuman speed via spawning foot wheels, a pistol on the scalp, and a kanabo.
Gekisoki: Appears in episode 15. Powers include speed, teleporting cars using the three red lights on his forehead, and a sword with spikes behind the blade.
Kyoryuki: Appears in episode 16. Powers include an orange energy beam from the forehead that teleports organisms and back missiles shaped like pixels or spikes.
Chojinki: Appears in episode 17. Powers include flight and releasing egg bombs from the butt.
Engineki: Appears in episode 19. Powers include reducing organisms into dust to inhale them, intangibility, speed from the exhaust pipes on each shoulder, turning into dust, and fire balls and flames from the palms.
Goseiki: Appears in episode 20. Powers include emitting shockwaves from the hands that can absorb defeated enemies into his body and deflect projectiles, martial arts, high jumping, and purple energy balls from the hands
Ninpuki: Appears in the movie. Powers include super speed, absorbing lifeforms into his torso by turning them into orange energy and turning them into zombies, summoning a pocket dimension like the Hurricangers, high jumping, and a telekinetic megaphone that can attach to a film camera to form a rifle that fires flaming film reels.

I know that sentai devolving into "red ranger and his minions" since Ninninger (technically starting with Zyuranger if we count inklings) but ranger balance here has not gotten better. New mechs are pretty standard for sentai affair. The villains... Alright I'll admit they kind of suck at the moment. Definitely not to the same degree as Black Magma, Volt, or the Nejira, but man they don't do much. Dragoku pretty much acts like the other rangers who aren't Saru (which makes him by default the least annoying guy in the series), all six rangers at this point being different degrees of dickish-ness and yes even Kiji who let a man get exiled because one hitotsuki briefly kidnapped his wife, way to show your ego on display! Zenkaiser Black does so little I barely count him as a ranger. Inoue's schtick of thinking every woman is his old girlfriend screams "Wow, they're really trying to ruin a good running joke from Keroro Gunsou, aren't they?". As for positives? Eh, the new shark themed purple villain ranger is sorta neat. It feels like Changerion and the dumber parts of Jetman for some reason. And the comedy just isn't funny, but that's pretty standard sentai affair too so... *shrugs* I'm struggling to find positives. And where does Tarou summon his palanquin carriers from? Do they just get locked in a closet most of the time like vacuum cleaners? I joke but I still wonder. Oh yeah and they barely use those interdimensional doors anymore for some reason, maybe the budget got out of control. I expected the movie to have that much, but I guess they were trying too hard to be meta like Scream 6 (that is not a compliment, Scream 6 is one of the worst slasher movies I have ever seen, right down there with New Nightmare, the Syfy original version of Children of The Corn, Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys, and if we count these as slashers in a vague sense The Rig, Species: Awakening, and Day of The Dead: Contagion). Oh and that Hurricanger crossover was... Definitely a thing. So many of these nonsensical 20 years later movies I'm half expecting that Kakuranger one to be an ageist parody. Either way this will likely be in the bottom half of the franchise unless it absolutely kicks it into high gear and I so don't want Megaranger or Gokaiger level quality.

America returns to tariffs after ninety seven years! While others groan at the economy we can groan with part 3!

Beastial/Cat Juto continued: inhaling organisms
Samuraiki: Appears in episode 21. Powers include a katana that emits purple fire cutters and dual shoulder armor plates.
Denjiki: Appears in episode 22. Powers include a vacuum-like mouth that absorbs organisms, summoning a surfboard that levitates at super speed, a sword with four spikes behind the blade, and launchable fists.
Jukenki: Appears in episode 23. Powers include spawning clones from the body that curse organisms, yellow electric bolts from the eyes, a pair of spiked hand fans, and levitation.
Ninjaki: Appears in episode 24. Powers include a pair of kunais, a ninjato, teleportation, and spawning holograms of himself that release sand from the mouth.
Daiki: Appears in episode 25. His only known power is a long pink ribbon that turns organisms into balls.
sonoi continued: teleportation
Mahouki: Appears in episode 27. Powers include a magic wand that summons magic lightning, vines, fire wheels, waterfalls, and wind gusts and high jumping.
Kagakuki: Appears in episode 28. Powers include spawning interdimensional doors, summoning explosive chemicals from the torso, and a sword.
Bakuryuki: Appears in episode 29. Powers include inhaling organisms, summoning a giant Abaranger badge to use as a foot for stomping on enemies, and running at blinding speeds.
Choshinseiki: Appears in episode 30. Powers include a high tolerance for food spice, inhaling organisms, crystalline armor that gives a high resistance to projectiles, spawning five telekinetically controlled energy shooting stars, and summoning a meteor.

Oh hey, the pink and blue rangers each got their own episode... And barely much else has changed. Okay, one "villain" (these guys act more like rivals than villains proper) dies in a duel to steal Momotarou's power. That becomes undone in the same episode by claiming Murasame for himself, makes you wonder why even have his power taken. The Cat Jutos/Beastials should have been explained way sooner, like shortly after their introduction in episode 11. It's kind of like in Super Robot Wars: The Inspector where the Einst show up in episode 2 only for them not to do so again until episode 20, why do that? Otherwise so little changes and one episode was a glorified clip show that did so because Revice ended that same day (makes anyone not familiar with Kamen Rider wondering hat is going on and why the ending was spoiled for them). So yeah, if this doesn't start shaping up, like starting next episode, this is definitely going in the bottom five by the end, maybe even beat Gokaiger for worst entry in the franchise. I'd rather it not, but oh well.

The secrets of the great pyramids have been uncovered! While every else sort of shrugs we uncover part 4!

Tensouki: Appears in episode 31. Powers include using the Seaic power of the Goseigers teleport, using Landic Power to summon volcanic fissures, using Skyic power to grow wings and fly, swapping human hosts, and orange palm lasers.
GoGoki: Appears in episode 32. He has no known powers.
Taiyoki: Appears in episode 33. Powers include summoning a small sun from the eye and firing blue energy cutters from the hands.
ToQusoki: Appears in episode 34. Powers include teleporting organisms he sees, high jumping, and a gun in each finger.
Chojuki: Appears in episode 35. Powers include a tusk on each pectoral, super speed, green palm lasers that transport objects into a subspace, slowing down time in an area that spawns telekinetic explosions, a machine gun in the left palm, and a yellow energy cannon in the right elbow called the Elbow Gun.
Kyukyuki: Appears in episode 36. Powers include storing organisms in the head, a head siren, summoning fire from the right hand, and a train form that fires purple lasers from the mouth, red energy cutters from each hand, and fires red energy bolts from the single eye call the Linear Beam.
Sonoshi: Appears in episode 37. Powers include a human disguise, a dagger that can detach on red energy wire to double as a whip
Seijuki: Appears in episode 37. His only known power is firing energy beams from the arms.
Denshiki: Appears in episode 38. Powers include absorbing organisms into her mouth and a stomach subspace that spawns fruits.
Don Killer: Appears in episode 39. Powers include flight, mouth weapons including a blue electric beam and missiles, strength, explosive green eye lasers, internal contamination removal, projectile resistant armor
Don Killer Killer: Appears in episode 39. Powers include flight, strength, explosive red eye lasers
Jakki: Appears in episode 39. Powers include blue electric bolts from the right palm, summoning for giant bladed cards, and spawning energy card symbols as projectiles.
Miraiki: Appears in episode 40. His only known power is summoning giant energy clocks that reverses time in an area.

Between the sloppy writing, unfunny comedy, lack of focus for the extra rangers, and poor attention to monsters of the week I can safely say this is the worst sentai series even beating Gokaiger. I'm struggling to find any positives in this. I will admit the music has grown on me a little so it's not the absolute worst. By episode 39 I knew this was beyond redemption, why have correction robots like this even show up? Why are the rangers not trying to save victims of the Beastials at this point? Do the villains even have a plan at this point? At this point I'm just shrugging. Way too much of this reminds me of Kamen Rider Kabuto, so much aimlessness with no idea what the hell anyone is doing (not too different than what Gavv has been like). I have nothing more to add.

4chan died for eleven days thanks to a soyjak party! During that time was the watch session of part final!

Hikariki: Appears in episode 41. Powers include high jumping, meditation that allows for levitation and aura shockwaves from the body, and summoning fire.
Himitsuki: Appears in episode 42. Powers include heart bombs, a green bladed boomerang, a blue bow the fires explosive arrows, a whip, a football bomb resembling the Gorenger Hurricane called the Himitsuking Hurricane, and spawning four clones of himself.
Chodenshiki: Appears in episode 44. His only known power is absorbing organisms into his torso upon praising him.
Hyakujuuki: Appears in episode 45. Powers include palm lasers and body lasers called Animal Heart.
Dengekiki: Appears in episodes 47 and 48. Powers include absorbing organisms by inhaling them and palm energy beams.
Sekaiki: Appears in episodes 47 and 48. Powers include absorbing organisms and palm energy beams. using a yellow energy ray from the arms
Ohsamaki: Appears in episode 49. Powers include high jumping, strength, and spawning four clones called the Royal Decoy Technique.

This is one of the worst tokusatsu of all time. It just kept steadily declining over time without improving and that ending was anticlimactic as all hell. Not even joking this is actually fourth worst after Kamen Rider Build, the worst tokusatsu ever made, Daimajin Kanon, and Bio Planet Woo. I guess this goes to show that being creative and being good are not mutually inclusive. I have nothing more to say, this junk can't even be bothered to suck for more reasons even if it was deported to El Salvador.

DonBrothers vs. Zenkaiger after this because tradition or whatever. Lets hope KingOhger gets at least a 2/10.

DonBrothers vs. Zenkaiger:

The logos. Seehan recaps the final battle and the last versus movie as the Zenkaigers return o their home world. A mochi party is going on blah blah blah. Oh wait that was out of order. Blah blah blah Magine munches on a mochi that pisses of Kaito's mom. Blah blah blah Kashiwa Mochi Dimension from episode 9 and two kudakks barge in acting like cops blah blah blah After some hijinks Zenkaiser finds himself in the Donbrothers cafe followed by the others blah blah blah Kudakks are harassing the local population to make mochi blah blah blah Twokaiser and his sister are nearby, the former dressed as a king so both taste the slave mochi blah blah blah Now the riki brothers are tiny robots again, I;M SORRY THE CURSE IS BAXCK WHAT!? KM World shows up to the surprise of the Zenkaigers saying he was a different one Dr. Iokal made- I'M SORRY BUT WHY DIDN'T THEY JUST DO THAT WITH *EVERY WORLD*!? Holy **** this is mind rottingly bad writing. Apparently the pirates ruined some mochi fun around town blah blah blah The rangers transform real quick and charge in blah blah blah Twokaiser sees this and joins the fight blah blah blah So the Zenkaigers... Retreat!? Hakaiser shows up saying he'll get mochi if he slays them blah blah blah The whole town chases the Zenkaigers for mochi blah blah blah Secchan has them escape via a dimensional portal blah blah blah Stacaesar lets them crash at his place for a tea party blah blah blah Zenkaiser encourages him to join up blah blah blah The rangers go to different dimensions for help- Okay not Gaon he's cooking blah blah blah Mochi goes through inspection at the shop when Magine shows up with mochi from Ice World blah blah blah Juran then does this followed by the others blah blah blah Twokaiser and his siblings munch on mochi but it tastes weird so he bails blah blah blah He suspects disloyalty when his sister asks blah blah blah They notice Juran giving out black market mochi so fighting ensues once both transform blah blah blah The others show up, but Twokaiser is too agile blah blah blah Zenkaiger sneaks aboard the CrocoDaiOh only to find Hakaiser blah blah blah Satcaesar holds him off while Zenkaiser transforms blah blah blah He finds Kashiwa Mochi World reading magazines while we see the other fights blah blah blah Aaaaaaaand new act!

Oni narrates it's been a year since the series finally as the DonBrothers face off against Ohsamaki again blah blah blah The rangers transform and fend him until he's over the horizon off blah blah blah Everyone departs which makes Doragoku feel left out blah blah blah Momotauro enters Oni's house during a delivery where he gets free ramen blah blah blah (PLEASE DO NOT CORRECT ME IF IT'S UDON OR SOBA I DON'T CARE) Zenkaiger Black tells him via hologram his memories will return and the ramen vanishes blah blah blah He finds his way to Cafe Donbura where Murasame greets him... WHAT!? WHEN THE HELL DID HE TURN GOOD!? Momotarou places an order followe by Zenkaiser Black wondering if his memories returned- WHAT THE HELL IS WITH DORAGOKU'S OUTFIT!? He takes Momotarou to his home for dinner and a sponsorship blah blah blah He then yells at a maid over a hairstyle like in a painting blah blah blah The rangers celebrate Oni's manga release at a karaoke bar blah blah blah Momotarou shows up so he and Oni talk a bit blah blah blah At Wabisabi Cram School we see Saru giving poetry lessons as Momotarou shows up for jibbering blah blah blah After that it's Kiji at his job as a CEO- is that the dating sim Bugster from Kamen Rider Ex-Aid? Momotarou talks to him a tad in a private office followed by a bakery Inue and Sononi run blah blah blah Momotarou eats an eclair saying Inue got rusty blah blah blah Inue and Sononi have a lovey dovey moment before Natsumi drags Kiji away blah blah blah That night Minoru visits his mom in the hospital who dies before saying her final wish, causing intense emotions in him to start a Hitotsuki blah blah Momotarou eats at Sonoi's oden stand where they yammer, Sonoi got xpelled because Doragoku beat him in a fight blah blah blah Sonoi likes seeing his customers smile before Momotarou says he oden is delicious blah blah blah The next day everyone gathers at the cafe and everyone wants out of the DonBrothers blah blah blah Zenkaiser Black asks for a party, but they all turn it down and walk out (how rude) blah blah blah More melancholy dialogue at a playground blah blah blah Minoru shows up to turn into Kikaiki blah blah blah He shoots at the rangers while Momotarou defends them blah blah blah Kikaiki easily beats him with a gatling gun to the abdomen followed by a swipe that sends him flying blah blah blah Kiji notices Momotarou has no pulse just as it starts storming (**** this overly drawn out attempt at being dramatic) blah blah blah Why Oni thinks poking his face with a stick will help I don't get blah blah blah Cut to a white church where a funeral is held blah blah blah The rangers give their last works blah blah blah The Cerebrans state hey should avenge him and the others agree blah blah blah Kikaiki attacks innocent people before the Donbrothers arrive and Sonoi brings Momotarou to life by vomiting water in his coffin blah blah blah A shot at the moon before showing the fight where Kikaiki shows off his strength blah blah blah Momotarou's palanquin shows up with his coffin (where the hell do the carriers come from?) and he pops out blah blah blah Doragoku begs them for Formation C which they are reluctant to do blah blah blah Kikaiki points out they talk too much so a gun fight ensues, resulting in him fleeing blah blah blah

And now the fights both ranger teams were embroiled in meet up in a quatry. Twokaiser supports fighting both of them with Hakaiser and Stacaesar showing up on their respective sides blah blah blah. Momotarou takes nterest to CrocoDaiOh so he drags Kashiwa Mochi World to the battlefield blah blah blah Doragoku goes on the offensive while the other DonBothers turn into the Dynamen blah blah blah Kashiwa Mochi World is beaten which undoes the spell blah blah blah Kikaiki offers to switch weapons so they do blah blah blah A special Hyper Bomber is launched at both teams for a rather huge explosion blah blah blah All the rangers are turned back into their regular form until Zenkaiser Black saves them blah blah blah Everyone is naturally dumb founded which just gets washed over blah blah blah Zenkaiser encourages he full team up so eventually everyone agrees to it as the two monsters recover and summon foo soldiers blah blah blah Transformations and intros are done with a back explosion blah blah blah- OH NOW YOU DO THE TITLE! Even Twokaiser's sister points this out before both sides charge blah blah blah The rangers join up with their color counterparts with both pinks being overly polite blah blah blah Both sixth rangers get on each others' nerves black blah blah Zenkaiser Black gives Momotarou a new gear that gives him and Zenkaiser new katanas and capes blah blah blah The grunts are massacres before the leaders deal with the monsters both at once with big energy cutters followed by an explosion blah blah blah The Zenkaigers all at sushi at the shop with Twokaiser being sorry he stole from them blah blah blah Gaon brings up mochi as a joke blah blah blah Vroon is disappointed he couldn't talk with the DonBrothers more blah blah blah Minoru is glad his mom survived so he promises to take life seriously blah blah blah Doragoku is in a nearby bed complaining about the food
until he falls for the nurse blah blah blah Inue and Sononi put up their own wanted posters because they like being fugitives blah blah blah The credits start rolling as Sonoza enters Sonoi's oden stand who notices he is sleeping blah blah blah Some shots of carp flags before the movie ends with Momotarou lecturing the other DonBrothers and they say what is on their minds before training in a quarry blah blah blah. Such sloppy editing.

Kikaiki: Powers include a 5-barreled gatling gun for the left arm that also launches fire balls, strength, a mochi leaf shield on each wrist that summon a blue laser in the palms

The writing manages to be really dumb for both teams, the worst offense being nothing on Zenkaiser Black's origin connecting him with the Zenkaigers. The Hitotsukis were giving him team gears throughout the series, DonBrothers was a direct continuation of Zenkaiger, it makes no sense to just ignore it! And the villains are just a pair of random recycles to boot! It's like they didn't have a lot in place and just slapped this movie together. Not even an introduction to the next ranger team. Oh yeah and Murasame isn't in the final battle for some reason. Doragoku got it pretty bad, he's probably had the worst treatment of any ranger in the versus movies. There is nothing more to add here is the ranking.

I was going to consider diving into KingOhger right after this, BUT Toei, in their desperation for content for the Toei Tokusatsu Fan Club, did more of those Years Later movies. Hurricangers 20 Years Later and Abaranger 20 Years Later will be next before we move onto KingOhger. And yes, after KingOhger vs. DonBrothers (and for some reason Kyoryuger?) there will be a take on of Kakuranger 30 Years Later and I am so not interested in all the elderly/health jokes you KNOW are going to come from that bad idea. I just can't even anymore. This was a shitty idea.

Hurricanger 20 Years Later:

It is Kyoga Year 3 (not an expert on Japanese year conventions), two ninjas in black sneak in some place t steal an ornate box. A third keeps a look out while the box is being stolen only to be nabbed by guards. The ninjas are the Hurricangers and what they stole is a gold stamp, Yellow identifies the guards as Ikakou and Ikki. Blue tells them not to give in as a stand off- and Red tosses it to them. Blue is let go while the duo scold the Hurricangers and jump away. This upsets the trio as we cut to twenty years later in Bunsei Year 6 (again I don't know what that is). The school was tarnished since as told by some old guy named Mugensai to some... lord? shogun? Well, his name is Nagao. And we get a proper title! Cut to Yellow teaching his son how to urinate when he smells Blue who is singing some song. She mentions how they haven't gone on a mission in so long followed by Red catching Yellow's son's pinwheel. The trio catch up on life until Blue mentions they got a job sneaking into the national treasury. Suddenly a portal opens up with courtesans chanting, most of them being Maerappas while the other two are yokai named Oiranda and Aunja. The latter easily defeats two random guards as the trio watches and Oiranda demands he location of the Soaring Gem, in her palm is three other gems. She uses her smoking pipe to force the truth out of one, stating a guy named Teruhime has it. Man this guy has crossbite. According to Oiranda when all four gems are together a wish can be granted and she leaves via the portal she made. The trio tell Mugensai and Nagao as we find out Teruhime is he daughter of a shogun and an actress. To boot she will be at a kabuki performance and the Soaring Gem will be in her hairpin. Yellow has doubts, but the three are ordered to bring her to the castle at once. At the performance- WOW that is a lot of skin powder. Her body guards turn out to be the two ninja brothers from earlier, the trio spot the hairpin. Ninja trash talking ensues until the yokai show up. The peasants are displeased by the interruption as Oiranda introduces herself followed by Aunja. After they both murder the actors everyone runs, the Gouraiger descendants try protecting Teruhime by running in a forest, but Aunja knocks them on their asses. Oiranda grabs Teruhime from behind, admiring the Soaring Gem- AND SHE EATS IT! Just before Aunja tries to slash her the Gouraigers show up to save her. The Hurricangers then show up- WAIT, THESE AREN'T THE SAME GUYS!? OH I GET IT NOW! THEY'RE ANCESTORS PLAYED BY THE SAME ACTORS! Grunt beat down happens when everyone figures this out. The Victory Gadget is fired, the yokai get all five assaulting at once so the rangers can escape with their ancestors. The ancestors are impressed with the modern weapons, Blue's great grandmother wonders who she'll marry. Teruhime asks what is going on so Red gets an orb to communicate through time so Oboro can talk to them. Bugs in time are causing the rangers trauma so they have to stay transformed. Legend has it the four gems were made when the Earth began (making old lore more complex) and explains their powers. Oiranda and Aunja are implied to be members of the Dark Spears, the rangers even fought them before crossing through time., the goal being to destroy the Earth in suicide.

Teruhime reveals she ate it, everyone suggesting she defecate it out. She tries doing it herself, but Aunja waited for her outside. Everyone goes looking for her upon finding out she never came back. Ikakou and Ikki think about suicide, but the Hurricanger ancestors yell at them and fighting ensues with more trash talking. A time travel portal opens up so the rangers have to leave, but the ancestors claim they are enemies so they cannot work together. Red thinks it's all jealousy and they leave. Yellow's ancestor thinks they have a chance if he can sniff face powder. At a town square Oiranda opens a portal where Teruhime and Aunja are as she talks about cutting her open to get the Soaring Gem. She uses the Kinetic Gem to open a portal to get it out- Does she not have stomach acid? Teruhime faints to wake up to Oiranda chanting with the four gems because this needs to be different from Kirameiger. The gems form a storm overhead just as the ancestors arrive. Ikakou and Ikki take her to the castle despite her pleas while the trio wonder how to attack, Blue's ancestor suggesting taking the gems (without flight?). Aunja charges at the trio just as the rangers make it home. They beg to be sent back, but they are unable to. Aunja provides ass kicking as Oiranda talks about how she met Tau Zent... As a prostitute. And she was in love with him.

Yes, I am interrupting the plot reactions to post a Dragon Ball Z reaction image because this is officially hands down some of the laziest writing in supplementary tokusatsu, possibly even tokusatsu movies in general I have ever come across. The two brothers decided to abandon her at a bridge and return to the fight because why not. The team up happens after banter that goes on for too long, gotta do the slow motion poses. Aunja gets stopped long enough for Red's ancestor to steal the Soaring Gem, interrupting the ritual and storm. Chase time with grunt pummeling occurs- when did they put springs on their feet? The Soaring Gem gets passed around during the chase across the town. Maerappas somehow have telekinetic explosions now? Aunja eventually gets it and Oiranda summons some fire to try and kill them. Right before the finishing blow a morpher is sent back in time for Red's ancestor to use it. I'm guessing it was a spare one? Well, he turns into a new version of Red that looks like kabuki theater with a naginata named Oedo Hurricane Red. How does he know the term hurricane? The intro plays, grunt massacre ensues from an energy cutter, Aunja is outmatched and gets slain, the Soaring Gem is destroyed, Oiranda summons a mask, and the area turns to night like Demon Slayer Season 3. She turns into a giant red spider (tarantula? wolf spider? hairy as hell), but Oedo Red beats her easily. Upon her explosive death the other three gems scatter in the sky and the morpher goes back to its era. Also the Dimension Gem was the reason time travel had bugs. Mugensai is glad both ninja schools joined forces and Nagao states their names, admitting they are not failures. Some banter happens because the credits have yet to roll until the slow motion walk- There we go! End credits show behind the scenes of the stunt work.

Oiranda: Powers include teleportation portals via the Kinetic Gem, a pipe that mind controls upon physical contact, red fire balls via the Crimson Gem, time traveling via the Dimensional Gem, turning day to night, and a giant spider form that shoots web globs from the mouth
Aunja: Powers include red webs from the mouth, a sword, analysis via the cybernetic Cyber Eye, and a red web string called the Spider Dance, and a body made of steel

Wow, a Years Later movie that doesn't contradict continuity! Damn shame it sucks ass. Like, this was the best idea they had? REALLY? And we STILL have an Abaranger one to go through. Not going to forget how lackluster Abaranger vs. Hurricanger was, it's still the fourth worst crossover after all these years.

Abaranger 20 Years Later:

Some stock footage play with narration followed by the old intro. In the present day we see Red, Blue, and Emiri grocery shopping when Yatsudenwani calls Red from a resort in Dubai. It's about expanding Dino House to other locations when Yokota joins in on the call mentioning he dealt with Turkish folks. The call ends while Red finds out Blue quit being a chiropractor because of idiots (relatable). Red accidentally mentioned he harassed Mai during the conversation because she hung up on him once. Suddenly an earthquake happens and we see a new Trinoid named Abarangekko attack random folks in a parking garage. Red and Blue rescue random civilians as the Trinoid introduces himself. Blue gets pissed the team was part of the motif as both transform. Someone on a motorcycle is nearby filming on her camera as the fight ensues. Emiri pops in to say they are middle aged for some reason. The Dino Bomber is attempted when the duo realize Yellow is not with them. The Trinoid replicates the Dino Bomber, pissing them off royal, while revealing he plans to revive the Evolians. Black shows up and uses a Crescent Moon on him. Also motorcycle chick is Dr. Aoi Iota who drives off. Abarangekko takes off while the guys ask what is going in. A few days ago a portal opened on Another Earth which had a hibernation device from the Evolians. Emiri losses her **** as she is glad to see Black as all of them head to Dino House to catch up. Black mentions he has an eighth child coming when Iota's footage ends up on the news, the news caster mentioning the footage is not from twenty years ago. Iota mentions how she cannot forgive the Abarangers and that they don't fit into society while issuing a debate challenge to them. Red thinks they can take her. This happens the next day on AsaKara TV at 5 AM, one rando does a henshin pose- Wait a second *looks up* Oh ****, it's Sharivan! He portrays a different person, but still. The trio shows up and chaos ensues, it's talking incarnate. Whining from Iota about how Abaranger only has one woman on the team who isn't even there; oh damn, social justice warriors are really infecting Japanese culture! Abarangekko looks onward as editing makes Blue look like a pervert. Blue is about to go nuclear on her when Red asks what the hell is her issue with them. She says they did something while neither stating what it was nor proving it. Something about responsibility. Suddenly the Trinoid is spotted so the three head out with Iota following. Somehow it's afternoon as Abarangekko absorbs more people before the rangers appear to fight. The Trinoid uses organic bombs that have... Diuretic properties? What the actual hell? Black tells them the suits can break the urine down- This **** is fucking obnoxious.

After urine rainbow the fight continues, Abarangekko beats them as he resurrects AbareKiller who then attacks the heroes as it's not the real him but rather a replica. Even got his super speed down. The Trinoid states they can relive the nightmare of 20 years. Both villains leave the beaten trio as Dr. Iota scrolls through Twitter to whine. AbareKiller and Abarangeko talk bit, the former forming a wifi connection to Dr. Iota to get negative energy from her. This works because of cancel culture while at Dino House the team wonders what the hell to do, Emiri suggests they stop being the Abarangers as she shows them the negative posts. Suddenly Yellow shows up- WHERE THE **** HAVE YOUR BEEN!? I mean I know her actress joined an imperialist movement in real life, but that's not the point. Blue gets punched out for mentioning crows feet followed by her putting on her old outfit. Red catches her up on how they somehow hurt people while Yellow pulls out her laptop with what she got on Dr. Iota. Apparently she was a fan of theirs in 4th grade, but during a dance to the ending theme she danced so bad the teacher joined in on the laughing. Blue runs off while the villains keep collecting negative energy off Twitter until AbareKiller kicks him down. The rangers head out while Blue ties finding all of Iota's old classmates (literally how would he know?). Fighting ensues while a drone films everything for Iota. Abarangekko's flower tail blooms as he unloads a beam in Tokyo Beam to revive the Evolians, causing sea water to reach Earth's orbit, drying out Earth slowly. AbareKiller joins he fight so the Trinoid can continue his business. Red tries to snape AbareKiller out of it while Yellow and Black continue the assault only to fail (man this guy is agile). Red turns back into his civilian form after a punch, but he manages to turn his memories into positive energy (somehow) to succeed. Another beam is used to propel ocean water upward. Iota gets depressed when Blue walks in and talks to her about how childhood trauma can linger badly with his own story. One of her old classmates shows up to say she believed she could still dance, even being a dance instructor herself. Point is there was courage and influence. Blue walks out as Iota ponders. The Trionid brags about how much negative energy he has so he can keep going just as Blue shows up. Everyone becomes depowered before rushing to continue the battle. Suddenly Abarangekko feels sickness thanks to Dr. Iota and her classmate dancing which causes positive comments on what I think is Twitch. The ending theme kicks in as randos start giving out positive comments, hurting Abarangekko. This somehow stops the sea water from going upward followed by the rangers transforming again. In classic Toei editing fashion the scene changes to a quarry from a sea port as intros happen. Also Red interrupts AbareKilelr because of an interruption back in the TV series. The back explosion happens which they complain about being close and smokey. Barmias are summoned to get annihilated. The limb claws finally come out followed by the Super Dino Dynamite blowing the monster to pieces- no, wait, he grows giant sized. It's mecha reunion time as the dancing keeps going and people cheer on the heroes. The Bakuryuus combine in the bracelets to power up Red into a new form called Super AbareMax, the Trinoid mentioning it took so long for them to get going (he's not wrong). Some trash talk followed by energy versions of the Bakuryuus fired at Abarangekko, eventually sending him to space where he explodes. Yippy skippy artichokey. Oh and AbareKiller starts disappearing so he has to be dead again. Some sad words occur until he leaves them, Red proclaiming they'll see each other again. At Dino House the heroes see the broadcast of Iota's apology when Yokota and Yatsudenwani advertise their new branch. Mai comes home, everyone is happy but the harassment issue is a thing that gets resolved after the end credits. A recreation of the ending sequence happens where she states he got it wrong. The hang up happened because her battery ran out, Red should have known they had mutual trust since he raised her. The movie ends with a "See Your Again!" sign.

Abarangekko: Powers include green lightning from the mouth that absorbs organisms into his tail used for resurrecting other Evolians, a whip-like tail behind the neck, claws on the arms and legs, regeneration, copying Abaranger weapons via vomiting from the three gecko heads on the torso, green bombs from the tail that stun nerves called the Lotus Beam, laser deflecting hands, and an explosive beam from the tail called the Gecko Beam

Urine jokes aside this is decent which makes it the best Years Later movie by a landslide. The pacing actually did this thing called moving, none of the continuity was out of whack, it was trying to imitate old episodes well, the age jokes were at a minimal and never hindered the action scenes, and unlike the other movies this one HAD A FUCKING POINT TO MAKE! AND A GOOD ONE NO LESS! Bringing back AbareKiller was kind of nonsensical, but whatever; just saying dead rangers should stay dead. At least this one had a lot of effort put into it.

Alright, now that the movies are covered, next time we rip into KingOhger! Or when I feel like it, I've been trying to trim down a backlog recently and a lot of delays have been happening. That said I would like to get large chunks if not all of the series done before July since four out of five weeks has movies dropping I want to see in theaters (Jurassic World Rebirth, James Gunn Superman, Fantastic Four: First Steps, and Naked Gun 4).
