Well the suit is suppose to be a joke

Fanboys think it's a piss on the Kirby design

Truth is Captain America's suit is really hard to bring to life on screen.

It is a pisstake on the Kirby design and it's being used in the context of Cap as a propaganda tool. Thing is yeah it's hard to bring to life on screen if you don't even try. They could have just put Christopher Reeve in a blue lumpy sweater with an S on it for Superman but they found the balance between making it authentic to the comics and making it look good on him. Much easier I guess to make "durhur" jokes about Kirby's design than to actually put forth the effort.

While I've developed a bit of cautious optimism about the movie this is the one scene I really, really fucking dread. Besides no self respecting superhero movie should be making apologies for such a basic a component of the genre as the heroes costume.

Yup. Release date is July 19 on DVD. Right before Captain America: The First Avenger comes out on July 22.

Of course. It's just so completely "oh dur-hur the original costume is so cheesy aren't you glad we made it into armor because this is just so dumb not real." **** that. Besides it's Jack Kirby for god sake. There would barely be anything for Marvel to make movies about if it wasn't for him.

Thing is while the movie design works alright I guess as the typical turn superhero costume into body armor thing goes if they could be bothered to get passed their own silly hang-ups they could have made the original costume design work well for film but I guess its just easier to thumb your nose at the source material because you're ashamed of it in order to look hip and edgy while simultaneously claiming to be true to it.

I'd say 1990 Costume> Reb Brown 1979 costume. With the 1990 costume they almost tried. They kept to the look but coped out on the materials as well as just utterly dub decisions like using those sad plastic ears instead of just cutting the damn space for the actors own. Plus the shield seemed to have about as much genuine weight to it as your average saucer sled.

And then you have people that take comics and movies way to seriously. Instead of just enjoying something, they find ways to bitch and moan about it.

and then you have people who will take whatever comes down the pike as long as it is even vaguely shaped liked something they are familiar with regardless of actual integrity or quality and bend over backwards to defend it.

In other words, liking everything is no more a logical response than hating everything. There's room for critical thought in regards to this stuff and it's cheap as hell to try to dismiss any critical opinion as "bitching and moaning".

and if you want to talk about taking something too seriously, there's a degree to which that is a problem with modern comics and comicbook movies. People always think it has to be in extremes because if you're not doing Dark Knight your doing Adam West, as if there's no middle ground in-between.
