Anyone remember Animorphs?

I know a library near here has the entire series on shelf. It's sorta ignored but it's still rather amazing in person.

Wasn't there a rumor of a revitalization of the franchise some time ago?

Scholastic is rereleasing the books with some pop-culture updates and new covers.

http://www.hiracdelest.com/ has a bit more information, including some of the new cover art.

I've heard this is testing the waters for a reboot or film or something.

As for the ending, here's the author's explanation. Yes, there are spoilers on there, but if you know enough to want her explanation for the ending you have already been spoiled enough.

I always thought that "War is unpredictable" excuse has no barring in a work of literature, every action and even is whim to the person writing it. The thing that really bugged me about the ending is that it was so cliffhangerish, I wouldn't care whether they lived or died as long as we knew.

I'm a fan of the new cover art, though, and it would be neat to see a new series. Either with the same cast of characters or new characters, this is definitely a world that can be expanded upon easily.

I do remember being slightly turned off when my friend showed me the ending; it's one thing to lose interest in a story but, to just end it and fill the rest of the book with "hope you liked this, here's my next story." is pretty lame. I never saw the series though (or at least I don't ....remember seeing it). How faithful to the books was it?

It bothered me a lot when I originally read it, a lot because I'd been away from the series for a while then picked it back up. I do agree that the very sudden cliffhanger was quite an annoying move. A lot of us fans were quite annoyed/displeased/etc. at it, which is why she wrote that response. We were very lucky to have the owner of our message board also being one of her friends.

A new series would be great. I'm not sure how some of the old books stand --there are a lot of things that have changed culture-wise. I'm thinking exactly like in OOO where Ankh finds stuff via the net, it would be a similar situation.

I think, more than anything, what bugged me was what someone mentioned earlier, she didn't really seem to care. It was basically "Hey here's the ending now go read this new series!" which seems like something better saved for a website or something, I remember reading her site waaay back when to try and get answers and it could have easily gone in there.
