Anime: Persona 4 The Animation

Differences(?) Review 5 - Episode 6

Woooh! 5 Reviews?! I'm doing good! Maybe I'll beat my Best Wishes and Xros Wars run and finish the series!

Episode 6 - I'll Beat You, and Beat You Good
[hide]-Well now, it looks like the Empress SL begins. Or not. When your Knowledge reaches 3 (and when Episode 5 ended, Yuu was at 2), you initiate the Empress Link, in which it starts off with Margeret, that fucking hottie, being alone. I would rather be alone with her than that long-nosed imp...er...I stand by what i said. Margeret is fucking hot.
-lol That's cute. It starts right off the bat about Kanji's little hobby. You don't even get into that until later on, or during his social link. And NOW we have that Golden Week (oop, we can't do it anymore) thing. I expected it last episode, but damn...well, I guess it's okay like this.
-Yukiko, you're so cold to Yosuke...I would be to. I hate him. XD I should stop talking about this scene, because it's definitely in the game and manga, and it's the same sort of thing. You JUST can't hate Nanako though. Right, onii~-chan?
-Wow, they're REALLY...oh, wait, I think the manga skipped this section. Midterms, where you're not answering questions but watching the main character answering the questions. I hated those questions. All of them. Though watching Yosuke inevitably failing until the last day was hilarious, especially the part that blinked "Yosuke's seat".
-A bit of a tidbit. This is where the manga starts leaving off, mostly because of the lack of scanlations. Safe to say, after the Kanji arc, I'll stop comparing to the manga. After Childrens Day (May 5), when Dojima gives gifts to Nanako and Yuu, the scene switches to an office somewhere, where our mysterious boy in a blue hat notes the interesting cases of Inaba. This was no where in the anime or the game and is a manga-only scene. Seeing that boy again in the episode reminded me of it, so there's your first (or second) difference of the day.
-In the game, you don't do much when you're staking out Kanji. I think you just go about your day as usual, and after school, well yeah. The manga explores that a little more where they follow him around from when Kanji enters school to when he goes back outside to meet this boy.
-It's amazing what cell phones can do these days. Put them next to each other, and you get the other person's number. Man, I wish America was much more simpler...I mean...no, there's not much of a difference here either. But it's the first hint of a canon pairing. There are times when Yukiko and the Protagonist in the game will have a little off-social link thing, and Yukiko does hint her affections (though not as much as Rise). The manga does the same thing too, but like I said, my time with the manga is almost over...Oh yeah, this is when the Priestess Link starts. Three social links, and no new Persona this eps...
-The game and manga doesn't have Yosuke and Chie using their cellphones to communicate, nor do they do it when they're within a direct (and hilarious) vicinity of each other like in the anime. This bit has its own charm that makes the anime more distinguished than the other two mediums. They even have an added thing with this new character, Aiya, who I forgot to mention last review. Sorry, stupid me.
-Seriously, this added bit with the running AND the donburi, holy ****. I can't breathe. I seriously can't breathe....and I'm seriously hungry...I bet Kanji was all, "What the **** is that girl with the bike..."

Reminder that the full version of the OP and ED comes out next week. OST 1 of the Anime comes out December 21st. Drama CD (not my thing) comes out January 25.

Funniest episode yet!

When he used the Empress card for the Fusion, it kind of make the whole gathering Arcana aspect seem like the Gokaiger's hidden power element. I was getting flashback of when they got the Shinkenger's hidden power lol

Differences(?) Review 6 - Episode 7

I'm going to go out on a limb, but I think that 2-episode a dungeon thing is coming true.

Episode 7 - Suspicious Tropical Paradise
[hide]-A note to new Persona fans: Yukiko's Arcana is NOT the Empress Arcana. That is Margaret. Yukiko's Arcana is the Priestess. That was an error on the Hulu's anime sub group's part. And good news, scanlations for the manga is still continuing. Just super slow.
-lmao "Hey, you saw that?" "I sure did." "Yeah..." "You want a copy?" "NO WAY!!" He really went through with it...the Anime is NOT holding back.
-The whole shpeel about Teddie/Kuma being depressed about not being able to instantly pinpoint where Kanji is is washed down considerably compared to the game and the manga (whose recent chapter depicted this). Yosuke should have popped "Teddie's head" off. Saving on time, I guess...
-The thing about Kanji and the kid with the "doll" was actually part of Kanji's Social Link. Looks like they'll be skipping that entirely...In the manga and game, all you had to do was find "the boy in the hat". And no, not the kid that talked about the doll. We're talking about that blue-hatted boy. However, in the manga, instead of a doll, Yukiko manages to give Kanji's "handkerchief." Works just the same.
-ADACHI AND THE CABBAGE!! THE FANS' PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED!!
-Yuu and Yosuke, partners til the end...I think that segment with Shadow Kanji and the three snapping with their Personae takes place midway in the dungeon. In the manga, they get chased in by these huge muscular-looking Shadows with the mullets, where they also encounter Kanji like this (but with less snapping).
-The manga chapter ends without a fight, but with the first of Kuma's bad jokes and Yukiko rejecting said jokes. And from here on out, no more manga comparisons until it can catch up to the anime.
-Once again...Yuu and Yosuke, partners til the end...Kanji on Shadow Kanji (no pun intended) is an anime-only thing.
-Also, those "black-looking guys" that accompany Shadow Kanji (I'm trying not to be racist, but y'know...what I mean...) also made a quick appearance in the manga in the midsection of the boss, only to be Galaxy Punted by Chie. WOOH!
-Yay! "Status-inflictions"!...No, I'm kidding. lol This is the first time Shadows are given "personalities".
-Anyone who've played the game should know what a HASSLE Shadow Kanji is. Trust me; I've tried playing the game properly, grinding ENDLESSLY. I even had to restart my game. And Shadow Kanji is A PAIN IN THE ASS!!...NO HOMO!!
-Fusion is now introduced into the anime. As such, there will now be sections for Fusions, and they will not be related to "Change". Also note that this is the first time Fusion is being implemented OUTSIDE the Velvet Room.
-As I have stated before, Yukiko is NOT the Empress, but the Priestess. Yamata no Orochi's summon is different from the game, as it requires an Empress and a Fool. The anime is really going to game mechanics, but fucking around with this stuff...
-The catalyst of winning the battle is Kanji's pride as not a man, but as Kanji himself, and the strap he made helped him realize it. I wonder what the manga will do for it...
-Tow days ago. That's it. Show's over.

Yuu Narukami's Change Persona(e) of the episode
Rakshasa
Level 23 Strength Persona that focuses on Physical skills. It is a demon from Hindi and Buddhist myths and attacks humans to eat them. They are "notorious for disturbing sacrifices, desecrating graves, harassing priests, possessing human beings, and so on." Starts with Kill Rush (multi-damage Physical Skill), Brain Shake (same, but causes Exhaustion), and Counter (Passive Skill with a chance of reflecting Physical Attacks) and can be obtained by fusing Obariyon of the Fool Arcana and Ippon-datara of the Hermit Arcana. Information can be found here and here.

Yuu Narukami's Fusions of the episode
Priestess + Magician = Yamata no Orochi, The Moon
Level 34 Moon Persona that focuses on Ice and, despite being weak, Wind skills. "A giant snake with eight heads that fell at Susano-o's hands. The sword that came out of its tail was the Ameno-murakumo-no-tsurugi, also known as the Sword of Kusanagi." It has a weakness to Wind and Fire, but its "Buff" Abilities, the learned Green Wall and the learnable Red Wall, covers these weaknesses for three turns. It knows the multi-hit 4th level, 2nd Tier Ice move Mabufula and the 3rd level, 2nd tier Wind move Garula. It is also resistant to Electric moves. Information can be found here and here.[/hide]

Reminder that the full versions of Sky's the Limit and Beauty of Destiny comes out next week on the 23rd, a Wednesday.

It makes me think that probably both P4 and W were playing off of a particular stereotype of homosexual men.

Though W is a lot like P4 in a lot of ways, so I'd have to wonder if Luna wasn't inspired by Kanji's absurd dungeon to begin with.

Think with Genki Sudo's role, though, he was more visually pleasing. And he was funny. Shadow Kanji + the two musclehead sidekicks were not as visually pleasing, but just plain hilarious. Especially when they yelled in English.

"EKKUSUTASI~!!!!!"

Yeah, Tough Guy and Nice Guy make that fight much more annoying than it should be. Granted, it's not nearly as bad as certain other bosses.

I dunno, my feelings on this episode are kinda mixed. I found everyone's over-the-top reactions to be humorous, but I can't help but equate Kanji's dungeon with tedium and an underwhelming reward. Still, next episode looks ripe for anime hijinks.
