Anime from the 80's and 90's (Recommendations)

Need some help from some people who are a little older than me (or have seen more) in the anime game. I've finished over 100 series, but most of those series are from 2000-2009. I need some history, so can anyone recommend some older series for me? I've seen:

- Rurouni Kenshin

- Yu Yu Hakusho
- Ronin Warriors
- BGC Tokyo 2040
- Iria: Zeiram the Animation
- Mobile Suit Gundam
- Mobile Suit Gundam Zeta
- Gundam 08th MS Team
- Gundam 0083
- Saber Marionette J
- Vampire Hunter D
- Sakura Wars TV
- *Everything* Tenchi
- Patlabor OVA
- You're Under Arrest OVA

Avoid recommending movies (if possible). I got bad reviews for Utena & Ranma 1/2, so skip those. So, what haven't I seen yet?

After War Gundam X was good just ignore the psychic crap and all that. It had a strong start and a strong end, with that guy back from the first episode claiming again that he was part on the war in space. The only problem with it is this, like I said the psychic crap and most of the middle portion of the series is mediocre.

Fushigi Yuugi, best shojo title in the 90's IMO.

Wolf's Rain was not from the 90's. Also, it sucked.

Try watching coming from The World Masterpiece Theatre. Its basically classic novels or stories given an anime treatment... like Grimm's Fairy Tales and Tom Sawyer. Not sure if it is 80's though.

Edit:
The first few seasons of Ranma 1/2 are good but the later seasons were not due to the fact those are filler arcs. Ranma 1/2 is one of those series that was killed by fillers, and most likely the fate of Naruto or Bleach once they try to do a season filled with fillers.

FANTASY COMEDY STUFF:

I would be a bad fan if I did not recommend the first three Slayers TV series (Original, Next and Try). There's also a somewhat obscure but cute little two OVA series called Ruin Explorers that's worth a look

MECHA STUFF:

If you liked First Gundam and Zeta Gundam, you might like VOTOMS, which was inspired by First Gundam and then had a lot of its own original ideas out and out stolen by Zeta Gundam.

Oh and speaking of things Zeta Gundam stole from, you can also get the original Macross series.

There's also Macross 7, which has some of its elements borrowed for the King of Braves GaoGaiGar, which I would also recommend.

I would also be a bad fan if I did not mention the original Gunbuster, Dragonar (that one's only complete through HK subs though) and Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Finally, for this section: while I'm not a personal fan of either work, their impact on the genre as a whole makes G Gundam and Giant Robo worth a look.

FIGHTING ANIME:

Hulu has all of Fist of the North Star up, if you're in the mood for one of the two "founding fathers" of fighting anime (the other being Saint Seiya, which has never gotten a full US release officially or unofficially).

You might also want to track down JoJo's Bizzare Adventure, though be warned that, in the US release listings, the first three DVDs are actually the more modern prequel anime that were released years after the last three DVDs, which is the original series.
