2 Arrested for Modifying Figure [to Double villain]

I'd be really surprised if this goes anywhere. Selling one-of-a-kind customized figures has been done for years. As long as it's not a mass-production thing, it is generally overlooked, those guys were totally right. I would not be surprised if another jealous toyshop or customizer had a part in 'tipping off' the police- I've seen that happen before with fan video dealers.

Customizing figures has been done for nearly (INSERT YEARS OF CUSTOMIZING HERE) and I figured that people would get a hint: We do these for fun and if we decide to sell our customs for a bit of cash, let us do it.

Now in the terms of the guys that were arrested, I can kinda see the reasoning but, it's still stupid to arrest them over a custom figure that they made themselves.

I told my dad this this morning and do you know what he thought?

He thought it was bullcrap for people to get arrested over selling a custom figure.

Well these were cool but I doubt we'll be seeing new ones. When you get arrested for something it kind of kills your fan loyalty.

I think its a joke considering how much $$$ he gives them buying figures to make into customs ... Its not like he is ilegally selling dvd ripps or something ...

Keep in mind, while it is unfortunate that he got arrested, he is violating copyright law since he has no license to sell these customs. It's not like this is a one-time offense. Every single custom you find here, here, and here has been sold for profit. The first link alone contains 92 different customs.

While it sucks, Toei's entirely within their rights to persue copyright infringement. Dunno how their case will stack up in court though, considering Ken's profits spanning at least 4 years.
