Disney and EA announces multi-year Star Wars games agreement
The Walt Disney Company and Electronic Arts Inc. has announced today a new multi-year exclusive licensing agreement to develop and publish new games based on the Star Wars universe.
Under this new agreement, EA will be able to develop and publish new Star Wars titles for all platforms spanning popular game genres, while Disney will retain certain rights to develop new games for the mobile, social and tablet platforms.
EA Labels President Frank Gibeau expressed enthusiasm about this new agreement with Walt Disney.
“Every developer dreams of creating games for the Star Wars Universe. Three of our top studios will fulfill that dream, crafting epic adventures for Star Wars fans. DICE and Visceral will produce new games, joining the BioWare team which continues to develop for the Star Wars franchise. The new experiences we create may borrow from films, but the games will be entirely original with all new stories and gameplay.”
When contacted about Star Wars: 1313, a rep at EA told The Paranoid Gamer that they are not announcing any titles yet. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed by either parties.
Update: EA in a call to investors has said that there won’t be a new Star Wars game until after March 2014.
