Cordyceps exists in real life! Here is a short clip how they infect their victims!
However, do not worry because they are harmless to us.
Don’t worry though they do not infect humans, they only infect insects like Ants, grasshoppers, caterpillars and beetles. Cordyceps are harmless to humans. Our body temperature is too hot for the fungi to thrive. They can only handle the body temperature of insects and arachnids. In fact they are pretty much edible and were eaten in many asian cuisines and Chinese Medicine. There is a long list of health benefits of eating cordyceps to humans. People also started farming these infamous zombie mushroom without harming any insects because they can also grown on vegan friendly substrates.
You can Grow these Mushrooms at the comfort of your home without the need of turning insects into zombies.
People who loves eating cordyceps compares the flavor to a chestnut mushroom. These insect mind controlling mushrooms are said to be a perfect balance of savory and umami flavors. I am not sure if this show will affect the sales of cordyceps negatively. If your mind can get over the fact these mushrooms turn insects to zombies, they do look delicious. I notice in grocery stores they are marketed as flowers instead of mushrooms because of stigma.
