If Winter Soldier did anything for Captain America, it was give him a new purpose in life. Now, not only was he fighting to save the world, he wished to also save his friend turned brainwashed enemy Bucky Barnes. At the end of Ant-Man, we saw that Captain America and Falcon had found him, and were wondering what to do. In Civil War, things will no doubt heat up with those three. Speaking at D23 (via MTV News), Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie elaborated on the friendship between them and how it extends to Bucky.
“The relationship between the three characters is more of a bond of kindred friendship. My respect for Cap helps me helps him find Bucky because I know how much that means to him,” Mackie explains. “So it’s more so of an understanding and a respect than it is three guys chumming around having a good time.”
Evans than added where Steve is mentally for this situation. “You have to understand where Cap is coming from in the last movie. Falcon’s the one guy that, having known the least in terms of history, he actually trusts the most. So coming into this movie there’s a really nice kinship between these characters. So, they do a good job on picking up where they left off from the last movie.”
