Agents Of SHIELD Season 6 Won’t Begin Until Summer 2019
No sooner do we finally get some good news from this Upfronts season than we have some cold water splashed upon our heads: there will be a sixth season of Agents of SHIELD, but we’ll have to wait an entire year to see it.
Why? Well, in case you haven’t noticed, the show has been hinting that the events of Avengers: Infinity War are happening in the background of the current season. That means the season finale could very well end in the same manner that the movie did….and if that’s the case, SHIELD would wind up spoiling Avengers 4 if it had to deal with the fallout before the big screen could.
ABC president Channing Dungey spoke to TV Line and denied such a strategic move, claiming the summer placement was entirely the network’s idea. As for Dungey’s personal explanation, get ready to laugh:
“What we’ve discovered is that we have a very loyal and passionate fan base for S.H.I.E.L.D. The show does incredibly well for us in delayed viewing,” Dungey explained. “By putting it in the summer, we’re going to be able to ‘super-serve’ the fan base that loves that show and hopefully give it an opportunity to continue on longer than we would if it was [scheduled] in-season.”
PFFT, right. We all know the real reason, Dungey. Watch for Season 6 of Agents of SHIELD, to premiere when you have more wrinkles and gray hairs.
