A Resident evil movie reboot that is more faithful with the games is currently in the works
Finally, a Resident evil game with actual Iconic characters taking the lead instead of Alice is going to happen. The fan of the Resident evil videogames has an enormous dislike of the movies because of the existence of Alice. Alice is a character created by director Paul WS Anderson for the movie franchise. Anderson is not a fan of the videogames. He never played them. Anderson wants to make an Alice in Wonderland inspired zombie action movie starring his wife, Milla Jovovich. He gets the rights for the Resident Evil videogame franchise because he wanted to attract the fanbase with the title. On the sequel, he incorporated actual characters of the game and demoted them as sidekicks for Alice.
The upcoming reboot by Sony will be more faithful to the source material, but there will still be some changes as the production will take some liberties. The upcoming reboot will be an Amalgamation of Resident evil 1 and 2. I think Resident Evil 1 and zero is a better connection. Resident Evil 2 and 3 will be a better combination because they happened on the same day.
The announced cast are:
Robbie Ammel as Chris Redfield
Hannah John-Kamen as Jill Valentine
Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield
Avan Jogia as Leon Kennedy
Tom Hopper as Albert Wesker
Neil Mcdonough as William Birkin.
Important characters like Ada Wong, Rebbeca Chambers, Barry Burton, Annette, and Sherry Birkin are not yet mentioned as of this moment by far.
Fans have a polarizing reaction to the casting. Leon Scott Kennedy is a dirty blond-haired white man, but they cast Avan Jogia, who is of Indian descent. Jill Valentine is supposed to be a white-passing woman of Japanese and French descent, but they John-Kamen, who is African British.
This decision might be for diversity purposes since Ada Wong and Carlos Oliviera are the only important person of color character in the first arc of the series. Both of them may or may not make it to the movie.
Fans who are upset with this movie can still have their canon Resident evil Lore with the upcoming Netflix series Resident evil Infinite Darkness.
