X-Men Director And Producer Talk Apocalypse Faults
The X-Men franchise is going through some interesting times both in the comics and in the films. Everyone is excited for the return of Jean Grey in the comics, and in the films, the Dark Phoenix film has gotten some new details and pictures showing what may be going on in the title. But, some fans are still bitter over what happen in the previous film, Apocalypse. Some felt that despite the grandiose nature of the film it dropped the ball in many ways.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, director Simon Kinberg talked about what went wrong in his mind:
“I think we took our eye off what has always been the bedrock of the franchise, which is these characters,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “It became about global destruction and visual effects over emotion and character.”
This sentiment was mirrored by producer Hutch Parker:
“There’s a lot that I think is very good in the film but, as a whole, it was struggling to find ways to coalesce, narratively emotionally and in terms of plot,” he said. “Aesthetically, it felt sort of dated relative to an evolution you were seeing play out everywhere else. We learned a lot from that.”
Personally, we loved X-Men Apocalypse, even gave it a 5/5, our highest score from last year. But, to each their own. Dark Phoenix will arrive on November 2nd, 2018.
