Vanessa Hudgens Set to Star in DC Sitcom Powerless
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Vanessa Hudgens, best known for her work on Disney’s High School Musical franchise, is set to join another big franchise with the DC Universe. She has just joined the cast of the new NBC sitcom, Powerless. While the show is a half-hour sitcom, it’s set in the DC universe and showcases the life of a normal, powerless person who lives in DC’s world of superheroes and villains. Hudgens is set to portray the lead character, one Emily Locke.
In Powerless, Emily Locke is an insurance claims adjuster who has to deal with the destructive antics of superheroes and super-villains in her city. Her character is said to be someone “who loves her job because she gets to help people.” In addition, she “likes to fly under the radar and just get her work done.” The show will be a workplace comedy that’s set in what’s described as one of the worst insurance companies in the United States.
Currently, the show has only been picked up for a put pilot commitment. It’s not yet been picked up as a series. So it’s very possible that while the pilot will get made, a show will not come out of it. The show is being produced by Ben Queen, who is also writing the pilot with Michael Patrick Jann. Christina Kirk will co-star in the show.
