The Witcher Season 3 Will Be Split In Two
No sooner does The Witcher finally reunite with his loved ones than he gets split up again — this time by Netflix themselves.
The streamer released a new trailer for the third season of their fantasy hit this morning…and also revealed a staggered release time for it. The Witcher Season 3 will be released as Volume 1 (Episodes 1–5) on June 29, and Volume 2 (Episodes 6–8) on Thursday, July 27. Feels very familiar, doesn’t it? Netflix did the same thing with Stranger Things when it returned during that exact same time last year.
The Witcher has been one of Netflix’s biggest success stories, but that success has been dampened by recent developments. It was revealed that Henry Cavill was leaving the series after this upcoming season, and that in Season 4 Geralt would be played by Liam Hemsworth. It was believed at that time that Cavill was quitting so he could resume playing Superman for the DCU, a role that was unceremoniously dropped a month later. I don’t know what he plans to do with his time now, but maybe he could consider giving The Witcher another thought.
But if this is the last Original Actor season for the series, they might as well stretch it out, right? Scroll on for the trailer and a synopsis.
As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where they hope to uncover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line — or risk losing each other forever.
