The Orville Season 3 Gets Delayed Even Further
There seems to be a competition between Seth MacFarlane’s The Orville and Stranger Things to see who can take the longest to produce a new season. Until today, Stranger Things was on track to win that race, but The Orville just pulled ahead with a freshly announced delay that will push the premiere of Season 3 three months later. It was going to finally show up March 10. Now it won’t be ready until June 2.
“As occasionally happens, our show has been repositioned amidst the ever-changing television schedule landscape, which means that the wait will be just a bit longer,” MacFarlane said in a public apology. “We understand your frustration…so we want to give you a little taste of what’s to come.” This makes it sound more like the delay was more Hulu’s decision than his. And if so, we believe it — it’s been pointed out a March 10 release for The Orville would put it one week after the season premiere of Picard and two weeks before the premiere of Halo. We’re skeptical Paramount+ is THAT much of a threat but in the heavily competitive world of sci-fi, why take risks?
So about that taste MacFarlane promised…here it is: the first four minutes of the upcoming season. It looks pretty much finished, which boosts our theory.
The Orville Season 3 has taken so long to come out that a cast member has DIED in the wait. Some folks have wondered if Norm MacDonald recorded all his lines as the yellow blob Yaphet before passing, but we are assured he did, and he will appear throughout Season 3.
Look for the third season of The Orville to be released on a weekly basis starting June 3….assuming another delay doesn’t happen.
