Terminator 2 Getting 3D Rerelease In 2017

At long last, it’ll be back! Terminator 2 — what many consider to be the greatest sequel of all time — will be converted to 3D and rereleased to the big screen in 2017. Director James Cameron first confirmed the project last year; now we have a release date — and a poster.

What we know: T2 in 3D.

What we don’t know: Where it’ll be playing, how wide a release it’ll get or how many theaters will be playing it. Unfortunately those things are question marks right now, and I really hope this isn’t one of those very limited releases that only appears in theaters nowhere near me. As for WHY we’re getting it? Thank China.

When Cameron first spoke about converting T2, he mentioned the average cost of adding the third dimension to an existing movie is seven million dollars. It would need to make at least that much at the box office to justify the procedure. But now that the Chinese market is so important, and they haven’t been properly introduced to the Terminator franchise (Salvation doesn’t count as being introduced), 20th Century Fox sees a way to cover the bill.

I love 3D stuff, and having been too young to pass under the R rating in 1991, I can’t wait to see this big and proper. Terminator 2 3D will be out next year, hopefully everywhere.
