Sword Art Online Movie Set for Spring 2017 Release
This weekend at the 2016 Anime Expo in Los Angeles, California, Aniplex had some news for the upcoming Sword Art Online movie, Sword Art Online the Movie – Ordinal Scale. The wilm is going to receive a worldwide release in Spring 2017. In addition, fans in attendance got a special sneak peek for the upcoming film.
A panel at the convention showed the first trailer featuring new footage from the film, along with new visuals drawn by character designer Shingo Adachi to over 3,000 fans in attendance. The anime TV series is based on author Reki Kawahara’s light novel. The story follows a young man, nicknamed Kirito, who fights to survive in a next-gen VRMMORPG called Sword Art Online. The novel series has sold more than 11.5 million copies in Japan and 16.7 million copies worldwide. The light novel has since become two TV anime series, spawned video games, comics and tons of merchandise.
The Ordinal Scale movie features a story by creator Reki Kawahara. Here’s the official synopsis:
