Resident Evil 7 Demo Breaks Records
It was only a teaser, but the Resident Evil 7 playable demo from Capcom already broke some pretty insane records. Capcom confirmed this weekend that the Resident Evil 7 Teaser: Beginning Hour demo became the most downloaded single-player demo for the PlayStation 4 in its first seven days of release in North America. The demo is currently available as an exclusive download for PlayStation Plus subscribers.
The demo has received a reported two million downloads worldwide. The game is scheduled for its actual release in January 2017. Capcom also released the following message regarding the news:
We would like to thank all our fans for the feedback and support – the nail-biting exploration and terrifying atmosphere in the demo is just a taste of what can be expected when the game releases on January 24, 2017.
The Beginning Hour demo features events leading up to the main game and ties directly into the PlayStation VR “KITCHEN” tech demo that was shown way back at E3 2015. In the new teaser demo, gamers awaken in a dilapidated cottage in an ominous plantation mansion to see if they can make it out alive.
Other platforms will get access to the playable demo at a later date. Resident Evil 7 marks a major shift to the franchise as it will be completely first-person. It will also be playable in the included PlayStation VR Mode option for PlayStation 4. It also utilizes Capcom’s new RE Engine.
Meanwhile, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is scheduled for a January 24, 2017 release. The game will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
