Stephen Amell Talks About Being Casey Jones In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2
It surprised many people when it was announced that Stephen Amell, known widely as The Arrow from…well, Arrow, was going to be play fan favorite character Casey Jones from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the series next movie.
This is mainly because it’s a very similar role in some parts, and yet very different in others. This is actually what Stephen Amell noted in a Q&A panel during the recent Fan Expo Vancouver 2015, where he was asked multiple times about donning the hockey mask of Casey Jones.
“Obviously, the similarities are right there on the surface, he’s a vigilante,” Amell acknowledged. “But, if the audition process and the script are any indication the character is going to be fundamentally different. As a matter of fact, it is almost like the character of Casey Jones – at least in this iteration of Ninja Turtles – is almost like the Oliver Queen people know from the older comic books.”
This will probably make a lot of fans happy, cause though Arrow is beloved as a show, sometimes people have issues with Amell’s Oliver Queen being “too dark” and “too emotionless”, whereas the Green Arrow from the original comics, and the subsequent Justice League Unlimited series, showed him being much more light-hearted.
Amell also noted that he really wanted to play a character on the big screen, even though he’s doing Arrow quite successfully.
“As much as I enjoy playing Oliver Queen it is very important to me to stretch out a little bit,” Amell said. “And believe me, I know I’m playing another vigilante. I know this! You’re going to have to trust me when I say that not only is Casey Jones different from Oliver Queen, but filming a big feature film is really different than filming a television show.”
We’ll have to see how Amell does when Ninja Turtles 2 arrives June 3, 2016.
