SOMA Is a Huge Hit for Frictional Games and New Live-Action Web Series Expands on Storyline
Frictional Games and Imagos Films have announced the launch of a new live-action video series based on the new hit first-person, survival, sci-fi video game SOMA. The new SOMA web series will dive deeper into the world of the game, and hint at what exactly happened on PATHOS-II. You can check out the first four Transmissions for the new SOMA web series below. A new episode of the web series will be released on the Frictional Games YouTube channel through October 5.
It is pretty clear that Frictional Games hit it out of the park with SOMA. The publisher and developer recently revealed on the company’s official blog that the game has sold over 92,000 copies across PlayStation 4 and Windows PC. By comparison, Frictional’s first hit, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, sold only 30,000 in its first month of release. Amnesia’s sequel, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, sold 120,00 in its first week of release.
Not only that, the game has been getting tremendous reviews. Currently, SOMA has a MetaCritic rating of 85. In short, SOMA is a bonafide hit for Frictional Games, and it looks like its accolades are going to continue to climb. It is definitely a thinking man’s game as well, that makes people question their concepts of identity, consciousness and what it means to be human. The imagery of the series and the game are haunting. Robots and computer systems have developed human personalities, and they have other humans’ memories. It is at times very creepy and unsettling.
SOMA is currently available as a digital download for the PlayStation 4 and for Windows PC, Mac and Linux via Steam, GOG.com and Humble Store.
